I have a Hitachi 57F59 Projection Color TV. Last night it started making poping sounds like an arc short and the picture would go in and out. Finally after one really loud pop, no picture. Looking in back of set, the power board is where a clicking sound can be heard as the TV tries to energize but no go. Local Hitachi service center whats $225 plus milage to come to Plainview from Lubbock,TX, 42 miles. They want $200 just to look at it and then $384 plus tax for the power board if that is the problem. My concern is, this TV was just $949.95 from Sears when I got it 2 years ago. Should I scrap it, fix, or tell Hitachi there service center is ripping people off?

SOURCE: No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Take out the bulb (back left hatch door) look to see if the element inside the bulb is broken or blackened - (replace bulb) if the bulb looks OK then it's the ballast that fires the bulb (service call).

SOURCE: 42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

No picture from Blu-ray

If the TV works fine with other sources the problem is the HDMI output is not enabled on the BD player.
Most BD players do not output both HDMI and composite formats simultaneously. Check to make sure the HDMI output is selected on the BD player and the TV. This information is in the manuals, read the book.

Hitachi 60SDX88BA

no picture condition could be caused by a problem in the horizontal deflection circuit or a power supply failure. A horizontal deflection problem often are followed by open fuses due to shorted components such as a h.o. transistor ofcourse there are a lot more componentd that constitute this circuit. Another no picture condition could be caused by defective convergence power amps. these amps usually give an clear indicator when they are about to quit(color curved or missaligned, double color images etc.) this is a common problem with projection tvs and that is where I would tell the tv tech to start looking.

Hi,
Seems convergence out IC is fried in TV so it gives blue shadow.

Check out Convergence Out IC which you need to replace in TV, if you have enough experience of repair of big TV, necessary tools and know basic electronics.

Hitachi 51F510

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......
