I have not used CapturePerfect 3.0. Hope the scanner is just fine. Try count only mode to check if it is okay.
Uninstall Captureperfect. Run chkdsk/scandisk to check if OS is ok. Reinstall Captureperfect again and it should work.

I have worked on Canon scanners for many years and I am very familiar with the scanner you have now. That model of scanner will not work like a convential scanner do to its age and compatibilty with todays software. I have found a website that will allow you to download capture perfect to use on your scanner. If you continue to have problems you might want to email Canon directly to ask for a link that will be more specific to your scanner. Just remember when that scanner came out Windows 95 was state of the art for software. Since that time Microsoft has gone through several upgrades to windows.
