Abit NF-M2S Power Led Connector

Has anyone any idea where I connect the case power led cable on this motherboard. The front panel connector doesn't appear to have any pins for it.
Thanks

The model number for your Abit motherboard is incorrect (Abit doesn't list one with it). I think I might have found what you really have, though. If so, the power LED attaches to the opposite side of the speaker connector, which is next to another set of headers. You should see it notated as such on the MB, too.

Feel free to take a look at it, and see if it matches what you have:

Power supply diagram for ht 2000 motherboard

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ECS-HT2000-AMD-AM2-Socket-mATX-DDR2-800-Motherboad-w-NVidia-Graphics-/251260314586?pt=Motherboards&hash=item3a804823da

1) Uses one 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Motherboard installed in computer case, the motherboard connector for the 24-pin ATX main power cable; is to the Right of the Blue IDE (PATA) connector.
(Right side of motherboard)

General example. Note that color does NOT matter of connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

2) Uses one 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

Motherboard installed in computer case, the whitish square 4-socket hole connector, to the Bottom/Left corner of the Processor socket; is the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable's motherboard connector.

General example. Note color does NOT matter of connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

THAT, would be considered a Power Supply diagram of the motherboard.

They are the only two power cables that plug into the motherboard.

The front of your desktop computer is the Front Panel.

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the Main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

Power On switch, Power On LED, (Light Emitting Diode), Harddrive activity LED, and a Reset switch IF used.

Motherboard photo, and detailed info below it. Scroll down.

Looking at the motherboard installed in the computer case:

1) To the right of the Ram Memory slots, and in the upper right corner, is the 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, on the motherboard.

Whitish connector with two columns of 10 socket holes.
A 20-pin ATX main power cable plugs in here,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain20

Note the Lock on the side of the power cable's connector, (Middle photo, and right photo), and the Tab on the motherboard connector, (Left photo)

When the power cable is plugged in correctly, the hooked end of the Lock on the power cable's connector, will be hooked over the Tab on the motherboard connector.

2) Look at the bottom Left corner of the Processor socket. Note the three cylindrical objects. (Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors)
Note the whitish square 4-socket hole connector below them.

This is where the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable goes. It also has a Lock, just like the 20-pin ATX main power cable connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

This is power for your Intel Pentium 4 processor.

3) To the Right of the Ram Memory slots, and located below the whitish 20-pin ATX main power cable connector, are the two IDE connectors. (Turquoise Blue)

One is for an IDE (PATA) harddrive, and one is for an IDE(PATA) optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)

The one on the outside near the edge of the motherboard, has IDE1 next to it.
It is for the Harddrive.
The one closer to the middle of the motherboard is IDE2.
It is for the optical drive. (Or drives { 2 } )

NOTE*
One side of those rectangular connectors has a cutout in the middle.
(Square U-shape cutout)
This is where the Locating Lug, on the flat ribbon IDE cable's connector, goes to.

It aligns Number 1 pin in the connector, with Number 1 wire, in the flat ribbon IDE cable.

IF, there is NO Locating Lug on the flat ribbon IDE cable;

On one side of the flat ribbon IDE cable is a thin RED stripe.
This stripe denotes the side that Number 1 wire is on,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nappe.svg

Looking at the rectangular IDE1 and IDE2 connectors, Number 1 pin is at the BOTTOM of those connectors.
(Motherboard installed in computer case)

On an IDE harddrive, Number 1 pin is ALWAYS towards the 4-pin power connector.
Same with an optical drive.

4) Since this is a motherboard, that has a RAID option for using multiple harddrives, I'm guessing the two Yellow rectangular connectors, below the two rectangular Turquoise Blue IDE connectors, is for more IDE harddrives.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID

5) Below the two Yellow IDE harddrive connectors is a Black rectangular connector.
This has 34 pins, and is for a Floppy Drive, IF a Floppy drive is used.

6) Below the Black Floppy Drive connector on the motherboard, is the Front Panel header.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What is needed here is a Front Panel header pinout.

Dunno. Photo isn't clear enough.
Looks like a Black rectangular strip of plastic, with 8 pins in a row.
4 pins, 3 spaces, 1 pin, 1 space, 3 pins.

Looking closely, (And you may need a bright light, and a magnifying glass), what are the abbreviations next to the pins, on the outside edge of the motherboard?

HDD = HarDDrive activity LED (Light)
PW = Power On switch
RST = Reset switch
PWLED, or close to that effect = Power On LED.

Post back in a Comment.

IF, it is just a row of single pins going across, I would use an LED light that has two wires on it.

Computer, (Power Supply actually), plugged into power, touch the two wires to the first two pins.
Nothing?
Go on.

When the Power Supply comes on you know you have the Power On switch pins (2)

Now go back through, but do not touch those pins again.
LED light blinks? = HarDDrive activity LED (Light)
LED light stays on? = Power On LED (Light)
Computer restarts? = Restart switch pins

7) To the left of the white long PCI slots, (There are 5 towards the bottom of the motherboard), are two small Black rectangular connectors. Each has 4 pins in it.

The one that has Audio, or CD, or CD-IN, is for the audio cable from the CD/DVD drive.

8) At the Top of the motherboard in-between the Processor socket, and black Ram Memory slots, is an Orangish connector with 3 pins. Should have CPU, or CPU_FAN next to it. This is where the Processor fan plugs in.

9) At the bottom/left, and below the two small black connectors with 4 pins in them, is an Orangish connector with 3 pins.
This should be for the computer case fan.
(SYS_FAN)

Additionally you may want to join this website, and ask them for the Front Panel header pinout, for your Abit BD711 motherboard,

http://www.theraptorpit.com/forum/index.php?/forum/124-abit-motherboard-tech-support-unofficial/

Finding information for an ABIT BD711 motherboard, is about as rare as finding hen's teeth.
I, and I'm sure 100's of people, would be in your debt, if you would post the Front panel header pinout for this motherboard.

Hope I have redeemed myself for the S.N.A.F.U. of the question asked in the Comment, lol!

I can`t connect the HDD LED cable on my motherboard

Push your case's "HDD LED" connector onto the "IDE LED" header pins of the motherboard - it is the same thing. If this does not solve your problem, please restate the issue a bit more clearly.

Proper installation of tower wires

According to Gateway Support, the Gateway 505GR desktop computer uses an Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/3724/3724iv.shtml

Intel (Ausberg) 915G motherboard,

http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4GWAUGSBURG

Scroll down to the photo with the sections marked in red.

In the top link, looking at the motherboard with the computer case open, the USB and Firewire (1394a) cables, can be seen attached to the motherboard near the letters D, E, and F.

In F that red cable is a SATA cable. One end attaches to the back of the SATA harddrive, (The angled end), and the other end of the SATA cable attaches to one of those SATA headers on the motherboard.
(SATA header = SATA connector on motherboard)

Preferred SATA header for the Harddrive is SATA 1.
DOESN'T matter though. That's the beauty of SATA. You can plug the SATA data cable into ANY SATA header on the motherboard, and BIOS will find the harddrive.

In the second link, looking at the motherboard photo shown, and comparing it to the view of the motherboard as mounted in the computer case, the Front Panel header is at the very Bottom Right.

Two rows of pins in a White rectangular shaped header,

http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4GWAUGSBURG

(S points to Front Panel header)

[ The plastic front of a desktop computer is the Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the Front Panel wires go to, is the Front Panel header ]

A) Top row has Even numbered pins
B) Bottom row has Odd numbered pins.

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-009016.htm

1) Power LED = Power On LED light
2) Hard Drive Activity LED = LED light that flashes (Usually red in color) when your harddrive is active. Being used.
3) Reset switch = Reset Button. The Reset switch is behind the Reset button. (IF the computer uses a Reset switch)
4) Power Switch = Power On switch
5) Forget about Pin 9. That's for 5 Volts DC - Out. Used by factory.

Which wires coming out of the Front Panel, are the Power On wires, Harddrive LED light wires, Power On switch wires, etc.?

Remove the Front Panel, and trace where the wires end.

IF, the wires already installed coming from the motherboard to the Front Panel, are Too short, you should make notes before you remove them from the motherboard.

Note what color pair of twisted wires, went to where, in the Front Panel.
Compare to the chart of the Front Panel header given above.
(IF any wires are still connected to the Front Panel header on the motherboard)

Once the Front Panel is removed, it's usually pretty easy to trace the two wires up to the Power On switch.
Same for the Power On LED light.
Again, same for the HarDDrive activity LED light.

The SATA harddrive requires a DATA cable, and a SATA power cable.

The connector for a Data cable has 7 contact pins. It is the shorter connector.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_Data_Cable.jpg

The connector can be at a 90 degree angle as shown, or a straight connector.
IF the data cable has an angled connector, it plugs into the Harddrive.
Straight connector goes to the motherboard.

The connector for a SATA power cable has 15 contact pins. It is the longer connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#sata

Note the L shape of the connectors for the SATA data cable, and SATA power cable.

Also;
This is a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Commonly misnomered as a 'Molex' power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

IF, the SATA harddrive has a provision for a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, ONLY use just the SATA power cable.

Using both power cables will burn up the harddrive.
May not happen immediately in some cases, but WILL eventually happen.

TRYING TO HOOK UP MU POWER BUTTON NEED TO KNOW

Hi there
The front panel connectors are mainly,
  • harddisk activity connector
  • power switch connector
  • reset switch connector
  • power LED connector
  • speakers connector
  • USB connector
Harddisk activity connector
This normally comes red in colour and is labeled as HDD-LED
Power switch connector
This comes green in colour and is labeled as POWER-SW
Reset switch connector
This usually comes grey in colour and is labeled as RST-SW
Power LED connector
This is usually green in colour and is labled as PWR-LED
Speakers connector
This speaker will give different beep sounds during boot to tell the user if there is any errors. It occupies 4 pins, however only 2 is important for the function. Be sure to connect the red coloured cable to the positive polarity and the black to the negative.
