Internal water leak Amana AT5518SW

I have included this problem under this category because i cannot find my amana at5518sw top freezer anywhere on the site.Hope someone may be able to help????? The fridge has devoloped an internal water leak.Water leaks from the vent in the centre of the fridge section and also around the internal light. If i push up underneath the freezer section (right hand side)large amounts of water flows from the vent. I have been told this may be a condensation problem and cannot be fixed...does not sound right??? Any advice helpful.

Its been close to 1 year now since i had this problem but after following suggested solution all has been ok....fingers crossed.

I completely defrosted the fridge by leaving it off for 2 days. Then poured hot water down the drain hole (inside freezer compartment) which had ice in it.I also placed a thin hose in drainhole to clear any blockages.

Also removed all buildup water by pushing under the freezer compartment (fridge OFF).

Both back corners (square open slots)of freezer compartment had a large amount of ice buildup.Icould feel this by placing my fingers inside.

Cleared this using heat....took quite a while.

Finally poured some salt in drainhole (small amount).I was told this stops freezing ??

Have not had problem since...Hope this helps.

When water collects in bottom of frost -free fridge , first suspect is drain opening  behind plate covering evaporator in top freezer. Drain opening is into vertical tube running down to bottom of fridge and into collection pan under the fridge where the water is allowed to evaporate into room air. Reaching the drain opening directly is not always easy and blockage in my case was bits of matter. I was able to force water with a hose and fittings up this drain tube exposed with back cover off and had gunky-like material pour out of fridge. It was the solution.

King, you probably have a defrost drain port that is frozen over. When the unit goes into defrost it's running through the air damper instead of going out the drain line. Therefore you get water into the refrigerator section. You can verify this by removing the evaporator cover in the freezer and checking the drain hole. You can clear it by running hot water into it. You will have to remove all the built up ice from water that did not drain in that area...Catriver..post back.

KING, Did this solution solve your problem or was it a temporary fix? I have had the same problem but it is ongoing even though I un-freeze the drain. cstoutor

My Amana french door/bottom freezer is leaking water. Did the procedure with hot water the drain in back of the freezer, although it seemed clear of ice. That didn't help. The leaking stops when I...

Two possibilities:
1. A cracked plastic tube. These will leak whenever there's a call for water - either the chilled water dispenser, or re-filling the icemaker tray (two seperate tubes). Pay particular attention to anywhere the tubes are clamped to the chassis; anywhere they're routed near or under the refrigeration unit; and near the solenoid valve - especially if there's a tight loop in the tube there.
2. A bad (leaking) connection where one of the tubes exits the water valve. Again, these will leak whenever the valve is activated.

Those plastic tubes don't last forever. I've replaced many of them for the same symptoms. They're known to simply deteriorate with age.
Manuf's make good money selling replacement tubing kits.

Water leak on floor

Typically on this model the drain hole Under the evaporator cover gets clogged. Remove the cover off the rear of the refrigerator and pour hot water into the drain until it goes down quickly. To remove the cover u will have to remove all the freezer shelves and the icemaker. Remove the covers screw and u should see that at the bottom u will have a block of ice down below. The refer goes onto defrost every couple days and will leak the melted ice onto the floor

I have an Amana BRD18V1 or V2, bottom freezer. About every two weeks it leaks water on the floor on the right hand side and i have to defrost the bottom part to get about an inch of ice out. I trust...

I assume you mean water leaking on floor of bottom freezer? There should be a small hole in floor in back to drain defrosted water down to pan under unit. This line might be clogged with food or frozen water. Carefully pour some hot/boiling water down tube to clear. You should see it empty into pan under unit where fan evaporates it.

Freezer leaks water!

luvbug, Your refrigerator is "frost free" which means it is automatically defrosts after the compressor runs 8 to 12 hours. The defrost cycle lasts approximately 30 minutes. If it is in normal condition, defrosted water goes through the drain into the drip pan under the refrigerator and then evaporates. The problem you are having is one of the most common - the drain line is clogged up. To fix it you have to remove the freezer drawer, defrost and clean the drain. The drawer removal procedure described in the refrigerator manual book. If you do not have one you can find it there: http://www.amana.com/amana/jsp/manual.do You will see the drain hole on the freezer floor by the rear panel. To defrost it you can use your hair dryer. To make sure it is open, run a cup of very hot water through the drain. Reinstall the freezer drawer and enjoy it! Gendos....post it back
