GE Profile XL44 Spectra gas oven

Yesterday I put the oven through the self-clean cycle and it seemed to run fine. I pressed self-clean, the display showed 4.00 hours, I hit start and off it went. The display then showed "oven clean/locked door", and the timer ran down from 4.00 hours. When the cycle ended 4 hours later, I had a clean oven, however, the locked door display would not go off. My husband managed to get the door open, but now the oven will not work - bake or broil. When I try to select the bake or broil function, it will not allow me to set the temperature. The range top burners all work. The door opens and closes and appears to latch properly. I set it to run the self-clean cycle again, and the display showed all of the appropriate messages, however the oven door did not lock. I stopped the cycle after about 10 minutes. Probably important: about 1 year ago I had food placed too close to the broiler and the oven caught fire. It was quickly extinguished, but ever since I turn on the oven to bake or broil, the top of the range gets hot - hotter than it used to. It is almost too warm to the touch, as if I burned through the insuluation. I have not put the oven through the self-clean cycle since the oven fire - until yesterday. I have been baking and broiling without incident until yesterday.

I have the same problem - my GE Profile XL44 Spectra gas oven quit working. I had left some food warming - below 200 degrees - a beeper went off as though the cooking timer or kitchen timer had been set. No timer was set. My daughter turned off the oven. It hasn't worked since.

Suddenly the baking element does not work. I self clean and it works for one week then quits again. Now during clean the cycle ends early because the akng element does not come on --- please help! It worked fine last week!

Hi I had a very similar issue that I finally resolved yesterday. I ran the self-clean cycle but wanted to go to bed so hit cancel with about 1 hour to go. The oven showed "door locked" but I simply thought this was because the oven still had to cool.

In the morning though the oven still showed "door locked" and I was unable to open door. I spent hours trying to find a solution on the internet plus on the phone with GE. Then yesterday I finally fixed the problem.

Hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

If you have the same problem where the door is continually locked after a self clean cycle unplug your oven for at least 24hrs. Next gently lift the door by the handle and wiggle it upwards. If you do this correctly you can get the oven door open. However do not force it! Just gently wiggle the door upwards and forwards and it should open without any issue..

Next plug the cooker back in. If like me the cooker still shows "door locked" you need to do 1 more step. On the front left of the cooker just behind the door there is a black button. Push this button and hold it in, then press the cancel button and hold both for about 30 secs.

If you have doen everything correctly the door should unlock and you can use the oven for cooking again!

You are a genius, GE should hire you!!!! I have had problems since the 1st time I used the self-clean, atmleastm81/2 years. I have had the run around since a then. I loved the " oven hasn't cooled enough" a 2 days later still flashing... that was the first time I used it. No one seems to have a clue. Since mine doesn't have a manual door latch, I'm guessing it is a combination of the latch assembly and..... the new door hinges used after 1999. Maybe I should be happy about that because I could jiggle it open. Yesterday, I found an article about hinges and reseating the door. Also I spent 2 hours on the phone with GE troubleshooting not a clue, then on hold from her to customer service for 27 minutes and after chatting.... not a clue... transferred to ???? ASK and not a clue. I did note that a search revealed the same problems I was having with not locking door and then door not unlocking. I was sure I wasn't the only one. Thank you, it has been a very frustrating ordeal for many years.

Carol, let me see if I can help you with this. First try killing the power to the oven for 30 seconds and see if the locking mech resets. If nothing changes try this: kill the power for at least ten seconds, power back up,simultaneously press the cooking time, delay start and the number 8 pad. Test should appear in the display. Press and hold the self clean key, this will test the lock motor and cam assy. The display should show 2 on the left (for locked) and change to 3 on the left for unlocked. Travel time of the cam will display a 0 between locked and unlocked. You must hold the self clean key for these changes. This latch mechanism is thermally controlled and sends a message to the main board to lock and unlock during self cleaning. We are just bypassing this with this test. Your temperature sensor may have gone bad during the self cleaning cycle. This is the probe located in the oven cavity. If you know anyone that is handy with a meter, it should ohm out at 1092 ohms at room temp. If this checks out, someone will have to open the top and check the lock motor and cam. Catriver..post back.

Most likely the oven ignitor is bad or weak.  You can look at it and see how it compares to the broil ignitor.  If you see a whitish color on the ignitor and if it doesn't fully glow then it needs to be replaced.

Can't Get My GE Profile XL44 Self-Cleaning Gas Range to CLEAN ! ! ! ! !

I also have a XL44 (GE JGBP90) and I can't figure out how to latch the door. When I press Self Clean, the display asks me to latch the door, but I don't see a lever. I think it might involve lifting the range, but I don't want to force it. Any ideas?
