What kind of battery does the pentax k1000 35mm SLR camera take?

We have a 30 year old Pentax k1000 35mm SLR my daughter uses for photo class. While replacing the battery, we dropped it and can't find it. The best we can remember it was an MS75 or MS65. Went to a camera store and they thought an MS76 would fit but that does not. The original battery was the size and shape of a dime.

Yes the K100 uses LR44 or G13. I would recommend the G13

The silver oxide verion is to be preferred. The size is the same as LR44.

Can I use the old lenses on a new camera

Your old Pentax lenses uses the Pentax K mount. The current Pentax digital SLRs all use the same K mount so the lenses will fit on them. You obviously won't get all the features available on new lenses, such as autofocus, but they should all work fine.

I have avery old pentax lx which i havent used, bought it from a second hand shop. the shutter seems to be stuck. i pressed to take a photo and its now stuck

How are the batteries? Shutter speeds from 1/2000 down to about 1/60 are mechanical, but slower speeds are electronically activated, and need a good battery. Generally, the best Pentax ever made. Mine is still serviceable after 30 years

Won't click a picture; when you push the button to take the picture, it just goes down. it does not click. the lens does not open. can't advance film. totally dead. new battery, yet that really is for...

Sounds like the shutter is stuck. Same thing happened to my ALPA. I like you was unable to take it apart to repair, so many small tools required to take it apart. You could be better off sending it to New York.

Clean the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Light metre not working

clean the battery cap and contacts with a pencil eraser including the cap threads. rotate the select knobs a few times to clean the internal contacts.
there are no new parts available for this model Pentax, so any repairs with good used parts could be expensive.

Eats batteries like thers no end !

Hello davidpritchie,  As I recall, this was Pentax's way of mating electronics with mechanical cameras and the success rate was quite good. The only problem with the Pentax Super Program was the rather complex electronic circuit board. Your canera could have a short, bad condensers, bad on-off switch, etc. You would need to do a circuit check from batteries to every electronic component using battery power. Wow - really expensive and time-consuming = complete stripdown and repair. The camera is over approximately 30 years old making it a classic. It is no longer in production meaning parts need to be cannabalized from another old non-working Pentax Super Program. The cost of repair would exceed the value of the camera. Look for another good used model or move on to a Pentax DSLR (digital SLR) camera as your tool. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer on how to fix your problem.
