Canon S1 IS view finder / LCD monitor black out

Hi I have a canon S1 IS Power shot. Recently I've found a peculiar problem with the LCD monitor/view finder. When i view through the LCD monitor or the view finder, my view is completely blocked. I still get to see the menu functions apprearing on the view finder or monitor.. However i can not see through the view finder / LCD monitor any image. surprisingly i can browse through and view my previously clicked images. Any new snap is totally black.. Can any one help me with this what can be the reason?

I have a cannon power shot s1 is. When i look through the view finder or on the lcd monitor i get a very distorted image it is very dark like looking at somthing in the early morning fog.

Press display (DISP.) button to turn the display on. This button is located on the rear of the camera and toggles the camera's LCD display. The button is usually printed with <DISP.> on the button or above the button depending on the model. display_button.gif If pressing the <DISP.> button doesn't turn the display on, remove and replace the batteries in the camera. If this still doesn't correct the issue ..then there what cannon says to this error :

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.
U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to [email protected]

Black LCD monitor on Powershot S410

that is not a malfunction, if the "display" button is pressed, the LCD turns off, (black), but if the mode switch is rotated to movie or panorama, it comes back on but will go black again if switched into the other 2 modes. when in one of the 2 modes that show black, simply press "display" and the LCD will come back on.

FYI "GURU", the CCD malfunction manifests as a purple colored screen with various levels of distortion, not black

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.
