I am getting static even on the local radio stations.
I had the same exact problem. Toyota changed the Amolifier that improved sound quality but not the FM Reception.
THE HARNESSES CONNECTING ANTENNA TO RECEIVER (TWO OF THEM) HAD IAASUES. REPACING THEM FIXD THE ISSUE. FM RECEPTION EXCELLENT NOW !!!!!!!

Yes, it is possible. Every head unit has aux input, it might be an RCA or stereo plug. Just use an RCA to stereo jack cable or stereo to stereo jack cable.
After connecting the cable, you may now select aux input to the stereo and play your Ipod.

Check the antenna connection where it connects to the stereo it may be loose or not in all the way.
