I installed a Honeywell RTH230B digital thermostat on a new gas furnace. With the mode switch on "heat" and the fan switch on "auto", bumping the temperature up does not cause the furnace to run. I moved the fan switch to "on" and the fan started, but not the burner. I then removed the thermostat and jumped the red and white wires together and the furnace started right up. I thought - bad thermostat- and bought another one. It did the same thing. I checked the instructions and they mention a 3 minute delay for cooling, but not for heating. Any help would be appreciated.

I did manage to solve this problem. The thermostat uses 2 AA batteries that reside in a compartment at the top of the thermostat. That compartment bulges out toward the wall and I think the wires coming in from the furnace were getting trapped between that and the wall. I think that prevented the thermostat contacts from from working properly when you installed the thermostat onto its base plate. In any event, it is now working.
Thanks.
