Error Message-- Error in shading position (-4431)

I recently purchased the Canon DR-2580C printer (used) and installed the latest drivers to my PC running XP Media Edition system software. The computer recognizes the scanner, initializes through both Photoshop and Acrobat using Twain. I receive proper dialog boxes until I actually select and click on "Scan". Immediately I get a Scanner Error messages "Error in Shading position (-4431)" It stops the scan process...and absent the original manual, I'm at a loss as to what to do to resolve this. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help. Is there a place to puchase a User's guide or owners manual for this scanner? That would be helpful too.

I also have the same problem. I already tried to turn off the scanner and turn it on again with no success. I also noticed that my scanner's LED keeps on blinking.

The issue at hand here is a sensor error. Cut the power to the machine for at least five seconds. Then reboot the scanner and the sensors should reboot. This solved the problem for us. Good luck to you.

"I get an error "Error in the back shading motor (4431) and the scanner stops. How can I fix it?

This error can be caused by a mechanical problem during the return of the shade. After many attempts, problem was fixed cutting both springs from pressure roll behind reading unit. The amount of spring removed changed from machine to machine. I cut 1 quarter of turn from spring and test the scanner. Procedure was repeated until problem was fixed. In worst scenario 2 turns were cutted. Be aware that cutting these springs will affect the scanned image quality.

I have a new DR-5010C scanner. I used to use the

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website (http://software.canon-europe.com/). This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.

The scanner pauses half way throught the document

May be the location where it is writing the data is not 'free'. Do a 'deframent' of the drive where you intend saving the data. Ensure there is enough space on the Hard Disk

Error in Shading When trying to scan

The shading alignment is a software alignment fix and unplugging the unit will solve this problem. You will have to do a software shading alignment to correct your problem. I've lost my notes while moving and I can't give you the procedure for doing this.I hope this helps a little.

Image problems

The lower scanner unit moves when doing the shading adjustment (scans the little white plate on the top and bottem scanners). Most common problem is a staple interfering with the lower scanner movement.
