The digital answering machine on my GE29893 telephone does not work.

  • Anonymous Apr 10, 2012

I can play the message on the answer machine, but when the phone rings, if I do not pick up the receiver, it simply rings out. How can I make the answer machine work? Thanks for your suggestions.

It seems that your messages are full. This will happen if you dont delete all messages. Try that first. Then try the answer button. Sometimes we turn it on but forget to actually have it answer calls. Make sure your rings are set to 4 rings then you will know if it will answer after 4 rings. If it still won't answer after 4 rings then junk it. They are so cheap to buy a new one. They are not worth fixing these days. it is sad i know.
Good Luck

SOURCE: Own a GE 29870GE1 telephone with digital answering

Hello,

Try unplugging the phone from the wall power outlet plug it back after like 3 minutes. Power on and see if you get a dial tone, if not, try reset the unit, once the unit is reset, the problem should be fix. Follow this steps to reset the unit,

Turn off the phone, remove the AC adapter, press and hold the page/call button that is on the phone and plug back your Ac adapter, this will fix the problem.

Take care.

I am trying to hook up my digital answering system with a multi line phone. I need step by step what I need to do. Thanks Ivy Hutchison

The answering machine would plug into the telephone jack on the wall, and the telephone would plug into the jack on the rear of the answering machine.
Now you do mention that the telephones are multi-line units. This could complicate things a bit because the 1739 is a single line answering machine.

If the telephone does not have individual jacks for each line (a jack for line 1 and another jack for line 2) you would need to purchase an adapter (maybe 2 of them...depending on the wall jack) that takes a 2 telephone lines and splits them into 2 individual jacks.

For example:

After the lines have been broken out, you can connect the answering machine to the line that needs it. You would then either plug the lines into their respective jacks on the wall, or use a 2nd splitter to combine the 2 lines back at the wall jack.

Answering machine leaves the telephone line open

Chances are it did not damage the control(operating) curcuits, but most likely the Telephone curcuits in the answering machine.

Static

If the telephone line itself is static-free, connect a normal telephone to the same jack that the answering machine uses. If all calls are static-free, you've cleared the wiring and the telephone service provider. Next, plug the telephone into the jack on the back of the answering machine. If all calls are clean, but messages are still loaded with static, then we may be talking about a bad answering machine. If you have DSL service, make sure that there is a filter installed between the wall jack and the cord that goes to the answering machine.

How to connect the answering machine to my telephone

You should have two jacks on your answering machine. One should be marked "Line". Plug the telephone cord from your wall into this one. The other jack should be marked "Phone". You will need another telephone cord to plug into this and then connect the other end to the phone.

Parasonic auto-logic answering machine

Hello, yes it sounds like your trying to connect a "analog device" to a "digital" telephone. If you wish to connect the answering machine to answer your line or lines, you should contact your facilities maintenance department and see if they can "hardwire" your telephone line (your primary phone number), to another jack in your office so your answering machine will work by being placed in "parallel" with your phone system and your primary phone number. If you have more than one phone line (number) you wish for the machine to answer, you will need to ask for a "analog extension" from your digital phone system and have it programmed to ring when any of your roll over lines ring. However, keep in mind the machine can only answer one call at a time, the other simultaneous callers will get a ring no answer until the first caller has hung up. Good luck, hoped to help. CG
