Return the laptop to the place of purchase because you still have warranty coverage, any tampering will void warranty.

Insert the original Windows CD-ROM into the DVD-drive, and see if the computer will "boot" from that disk. If so, then it could be your 'C:' drive which is having the problem, and thus not "booting" your computer from it.

SOURCE: sony vaio vgn nr160e laptop - no display

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm it sounds like you have the "award bios" that means there is a video conflict or error.

remove any new hardware, undo what ever you did before the reboot. start there. if that doesnt work its a hunt and peck to find the conflicting hardware. remove and PCMCIA cards, then give it a try just keep disasembling one part at a time until the beep stops and begins to boot. if you dont feel comfortable disasembling anymore, its needs service.

1 LONG BEEP 2 SHORT BEEPS

Does anything ever post to the screen when you press the power button? if not, it's your video card. The links below are for 1 long and 2 short and they say it's the video card. I've heard that Sony extended the warranty on some models so you might want to go to their website and check yours or in a google search type: Sony GPU Extended Warranty. I did and I see they extended it from one to three years. They have the faulty Nvidia Graphics Card which was a major problem for many manufacturers.

Black Screen with 3 Beep Tones !

Probably memory stick(s). Are you comfortable taking a laptop apart to get at the memory sticks? If not, take it to a repair shop BUT at 9 months old, most units have a 1 year warranty. Contact the mfg with your purchase date, etc.

Hello, I am using VAIO VGN-C13G series laptop with 13.3" screen size. Recently I've got a black thick stripe vertical line on the right side of my LCD screen. And the whole display shrinked into...

Right click on the Desktop, and then click on Properties. Click on the Settings tab, and then change the resolution to the highest setting available.
If that doesn't work, I would try reinstalling your graphics drivers.

My Sony Vaio VGN NW225F laptop won't start up.

First thinkg I'd do is to connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if you can get an image, any image, during booting. If you can't see anything, either using the laptop's screen or external monitor, then you have a hardware failure in the laptop that's probably beyond the abilities of a novice to repair. Get somebody who knows about how to clear the CMOS of the laptop.

Hello.. I have just installed a new motherboard on my Sony Vaio VGN N31S/W laptop (Motherboard : MBX-160) and for some reason the screen doesn't seem to shed the slightest bit of life... I have taken...

Connect an external monitor and see if you can get any life in it. Watch carefully during boot up as most computers will output their built-in logo or configuration screen onto the boot screen of all connected screens before the operating system loads. If you can get life in the external monitor, but not on the built-in screen, you may want to double check all the connections to the internal monitor, or replace the wiring loom or strip that links the motherboard to the screen (via the hinge). This is often where connection breaks happen.
