I would say throw it away and get a new TV, they are cheap these days. Plus, everything is going digital next year, so it's time for a change.

You have a chip that is overheating due to heatsink coumpound being dried up. You need to find that chip and heatsink and apply new compound to both parts.

I believe it is going to be a major repair and I would hesitate to invest much money into it. I think the age of this set is older than 5 years. The VS model series were manufactures before the WS model series and they have been around for 8 years or so. Never the less, parts availability is getting tougher. If your pain thresh hold is 300.00 or 400.00
go for it. If not, check out new sets.
