Hi, don't burn it. Try these two other easy things that might give you some relief: First, clean the air vent on the fuel cap. Second, change the spark plug.

Hi
Very possible that the valve is stuck open and piston could have hit valve causing it to bend at the head. This would cause valve not to close completely. Would have to remove head and remove valve and most likely replace intake valve.

I have a Scotts _ John Deere law mower tractor model S2048-S2554 Serial number 020-001, the engine runs but sounds like it is going to die or it needs air --- it runs unnevenly

I am having a problem with my lawn tractor similar to what you describe. Mine runs fine for 15 to 20 minutes and then stalls. It will start back up and run for a few minutes and then stall again. When it stalls it is like when you get off of the seat with the blades engaged. I have replaced the gas and fuel filter and have cleaned the carb and air cleaner with no effect on this problem. I am now thinking that the problem is the fuel stoper located at the bottom of the carb. There is a plunger screwed into the bottom of the carb bowl that is held down when the key is turned on. If you get off of the seat when the engine is running and the brake is not on or the blades are engaged the stoper is pushed up into the main jet fuel path causing the engine to stall. I am going to fabricate a heat shield around this plunger to see if this corrects the problem.
