Its been a long while since i ran my hobart champion 10000 welder and after cleaning out the carbuerator, float was sticking preventing flow. i got it started. i ran it for about 15min on idle/run and turned to off but it never shutdown after another 5min.it did spin up to run speed again though. worried i pulled the fuel supply and it cut off. admittedly not the best thing to do. i also changed the battery. it has less then 50 hrs on it as well. not having the directions and not really finding an answer brings me here. any ideas?

sounds like either something is shorted out or the governor is stuck. Check the governor linkage to start with and make sure it is free. Then check the push in breakers for the outlets to see if they are popped. If not the brushes or the armature could be stuck or corroded.

measure ouput on ALL available sockets - anything?
Take cover off electric motor-generator, visually inspect windings.
Measure continuity of all stator windings (2 or 3 points usually)
Measure continuity of stator thru brushset.
If all measures ok - has to be AVR module.
There is no mistery in generator - just stator to induce and rotor to obtain voltage.

It looks like Hobart made 3 different versions of the 10,000. If you go to their website and enter the model # (and serial #), you can download the exact owners manual with complete parts listing (according to their site). The website is: http://www.hobartwelders.com/service/owners-manuals
The part should be available from them..or with the part number, you can google it and see what is out there in the secondary market.
Hope this helps
