High pitch whine when tv started then it lowers in pitch

When I start the tv it has a high pitch whine which quickly drops in pitch until it stops, then the whine starts low and climbs until it hits a high pitch and then stops.. Comparable to when you hear a siren start at a high pitch, drop down low and then back up. Any ideas? Lamp and color wheel haven't been replaced in over 2 years.

That could be either the color wheel or one of the fans. try listening to which area of the set its coming from.

SOURCE: RCA HD61LPW42 - no picture

I haven't worked on an RCA DLP but have on Samsung DLP, based on your description it sounds like the color wheel is bad. Take the back off and turn on TV make sure its not a fan making the noise ,but most likely its the "wheel" it is inside the light engine probably right next to where the lamp is plugged in. If the whine comes from this area definitely the wheel.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP Flickering

If you're certain the lamp is good, it's probably the ballast. The ballast has enough juice to power the lamp, but it's unable to maintain a steady consistent level of power, hence the lamp flickering. Changing the lamp may temporarily resolve it because a new lamp is more easily maintained than an older one, but if the ballast is failing, the problem will recur and probably shorten the life of the lamp. The ballasts cost around $70-80. Replacing it can be done by the electronically adept end user, or you may need a service tech. The problem with a service tech is that some may not acknowledge that the problem is the ballast especially if the intermittent flicker is not happening while he/she is examining it.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP TV repair or replace that is the question!

Color wheel sounds like it needs replacement. The set will often shut down when the color wheel gets bad and wont power up.

SOURCE: Have a Samsung DLP hln507w1x xaa. When you start

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired ofcourse) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companiesPhilips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failedin 2-5 years instead of 10-20. Thecapacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in allsorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems. Here are some options for you. 1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is itunder warranty?) Remember, TVs CONTAINHIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk. 2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cordplugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad capsreplace the entire board. The entireboard costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though. 3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill. Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourselfit will save you hundreds. This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be. I have a Tip/How TO tutorialon this site that may also help. Itgives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this isyour board you are in luck. Here is theLink: Fixingthe Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to helpguide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help. Hope this helps and if it does please rate itaccordingly. Good luck.Kaufman605

I have a magnavox 37mf331d/37 that has developed a high pitched whine.the longer the tv is on the louder the whine.the tv is 5-6 yrs old

It's likely a capacitor associated with the power supply having gone bad.
It's obviously beyond your expertise to repair it yourself.
Find a trustworthy repair shop and take it there.

A noise had been gradually increasing from a grinding sound to a high-pitched whine. COntinues until the screen is completely off. Sounds like a fan motor may be out of lubrication.

THAT TV HAS WHAT IS CALLED A COLOR WHEEL WHICH SPINS AT VERY HIGH RPMS AND CAN MAKE HIGH PITCHED WHINING/GRINDING NOISES IF A FAN WAS BAD THE TV WOULD SHUTDOWN AND THE SOUND WOULD BE MORE DULL SOUNDING.

High Pitch whine during acceleration

Hi Pullerwife,

I have a few suggestions for you,

First of all, check your air filter, make sure its clean, not clogged, and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't know how handy you are, but if you are fairly handy, check the idler pulley bearings, if your not, have a shop check it out, as a last resort.

Power steering pump/fluid being low is also a possibility, but thats usually more of a lower pitched whine then what you describe.

You say once the vehicle is warmed up, the whining stops. Does Weather seem to be a factor as well?

Hope I've helped, and don't forget to rate.

Power light comes on, followed by a high pitched whine

Hi, If after trying the TV again later and problem persist, repairs are in order. A high pitched whine is an indication of a fault at the horizontal section of your TV. The horizontal provides the high voltage for the picture tube. Your best bet maybe to seek the services of a qualified professional TV repairman since this involves component level repair, soldering/desoldering, use of soldering iron and VOM (testers) and knowledge of circuitry. Good luck and kind regards.

Screen Whine

Hi, constant high pitched whine from most monitors have something to do with the horizontal frequency which is partly affected by the screen resolution as set in your computer display properties. Try lowering down your resolution or go into safe mode. if the whine disappears, it may be that the monitor is not fully capable of displaying too high a resolution. If the whine continues even at safe mode or lower screen res, then you would need to consult a qualified technician to check for defective components in the horizontal circuitry of your monitor. I wouldn't recommend that you take look due to the presence of extremely high voltage in that area. Hope this be of some help. pls post again how things turn up. kind regards.
