hi first do not switch off the machine simply lift up the top half of the machine from the front there will be a marking and usually oval shape where your hand should fit lift up the ink cartridge will then move to the centre lift the grey latch and remove the cartridge you need to replace take the new cartridge and remove the seal and fit in position relock the latch and close the the top half of the machine it should recognise the new cartridge remember lexmark do not work with refilled cartriges and that the replacement instructions comes with the new catridge as well as in the printer driver tools under maintenance you will find it under printers on your pc good luck

Some menus on the X8310 and X8350 are repeated in the Copy Mode, Scan Mode, Fax Mode and Photo Card menus.
If you press the Menu button while in any of the above menus, two ancillary menus will be listed, Maintenance and Device Defaults.
To select either of these menus, press the check mark at the center of the navigation keys on the printer.

The ink levels should reset when the ink jet cartridge is installed.

The cartridge is electronically dead. This is a common occurrence from improper refilling. To be correctly refilled it must be done under a vacuum to prevent air from entering the print head, which has likely happened. As ink flows through the print head it acts as coolant in an engine, when air is introduced the print head cannot cool, over heats, and ruins the cartridge. These cartridges are difficult enough for us professionals to refill successfully, my recommendation is to leave it to us, or buy original. A refilled integrated print head cartridge will always continue to read as empty because there is no way to reset the cartridge, the manufactures do this on purpose. Lexmark cartridges in general are designed to only last one cycle anyways, multiple refills is attained only with proper technique.

Lexmark 36 and 37 cartridges cannot be refilled. When your ink levels drop below a certain point your printer deactivates the electronics on your cartridge so you cannot refill them. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling shop and I sell Lexmark originals for the 36 and 37 because of this reason. Unfortunately you purchased a machine that you have to buy expensive original ink for. You need to buy Lexmark original 36 and 37 to get your printer to work. As a refiller I never recommend someone buy a Lexmark printer if they ever want to use refills.

Click Start - Control panel - Printers & FAXES

Right click on the printer icon Officejet 5600 series -- Select properties - Click on ports tab - Change the port to USB virtual port.

Disconnect the usb cable from the computer.


1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type Services.msc
4. Locate print spooler on the list, right-click and choose stop.
5. Again right-click the print spooler and choose start.


Reconnect the usb cable try printing.
