Flashing (ghosting) on screen when playing DVD's or VCR tapes

Your combo is selected to play dvd. You have to select vcr to play tape?

Ur VCR signal recorded free air throught an DTV converter box?Yes,this cause is normal,because VCR player have no digital tuner on the VCR player by itself,on it circuitries design.If recorded throught pay cable signal.Yes,than ur VCR video head player is dirty needed to be clean.Tries websites like Amazon.com,Ebay.com to buy a VCR video head cleaner vdeo tape.Just play it as normal as a video tape,when the video head clean,VCR will display clean head eject tape now.

Have you switched your Video Source on the TV to match the input from your player? Vid 0, Vid1, Svideo, DVD Etc?

it sounds like the video head is dirty and needs cleaning, buy a vcr cleaning tape and follow directions on how to clean the heads... Radio Shack should have the cleaning tape....hope this helps.

There are several Philips and Magnavox DVD/VCR combos that have sepearate video connectors for the DVD and VCR side. Double-check the yellow composite cable that is plugged into the back of your Magnavox - it should be plugged into an area that says either "DVD/VCR" or "VCR". If you are currently using red, green, and blue video cables, you will need to add a second video cable - a yellow composite would be easiest. The reason for this change is that red/green/blue cables will only operate the DVD side on most Philips/Magnavox players - that is just the way they decided to design them. If you happen to find a model number listed on the back of your combo unit, and have the model number of your television, I can take a second look at it, and tell you exactly which connections to make. Nothing has worked! Talked with a tech on the phone line and she said unit is bad. Everyone seems to have problems with this type of unit period so I am returning it and giving up. Even the responses from others have not proved effective. Lousy product!

you probable have a dirty video head...you can try a tape head cleaner tape/// they sometimes work.... if not you need to get to the video head and clean it with a liquid cleaning solution---
one of your tapes may have a bad spot on it causing the problem...if you clean it and use the same bad tape again you can cause the same problem again
