Program play prohibited

Unit was working fine with all discs. Went to change a disc and got message that program play prohibited. The disc would load and reach the point of play then the message would appear. As other discs were changed it happened with those as well. Any disc that was not changed prior to this worked fine.

I have the same problem. Some discs play fine and others will get to a certain point and then say"chapters __ prohibited" and will go no further.

This can happen if you have the "repeat" function turned on on your DVD player.

All my DVDs say "invalid" when I try and play. This just started all of a sudden. Was working just fine before.

Always first unplug for a minute and make sure the discs are VERY CLEAN. Sometimes my player/recorders give an error message 2-3 times but eventually are able to load the disc.

Is there a way to change the region code on a Sony HCD-S300 Please?

Unfortunately, you have a DVD player that is "Region Specific" and cannot be changed. Your system has a region code printed on the back of the unit and will only play DVDs that are labeled with identical region codes. DVDs labeled "ALL" will also play in this unit. If you try to play any other DVD, the message " Playing this disc is prohibited by area limits." will appear on the TV screen. Depending on the DVD, no region code indication may be labeled even though playing is prohibited by area limits.

What you are describing is a bad/damaged optical unit in the player--some are sold but only as a complete unit.

Program Play of Title 32 Prohibited

NO. it will most likely be either a limitation of the player or a faulty/incompatible disc.
A very quick test is to play the disc in another slot and see if the problem moves with the Disc.

Dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck
