One of two issues are possible here:

Model indicated has a convergence circuit= colors are skewed or even 3d looking is convergence problem. Set has Akai name but is made by Samsung--if a convergence issue can be a do it yourself repair.

I can explain what is needed if that is the problem (see some attached photos).

The other issue seen is if on a black and white picture (color turned off) stand back and look at the screen= is it yellow looking or gray?

If yellow looking the Glycol (a cooling fluid in each tube) is contaminated- usually in these sets the blue is first= no real blue leaves a yellow screen.

Look at the photos and try to tell me which issue you have.

Remove purple haze around edges

The set needs to be focussed and reconverged. The red and blue images combined make a magenta/purple image. Adding green makes it white. Depending on the type of TV, if it's a CRT projection TV then there's an electronic focus control for each of the three tubes as well as the mechanical adjustment of the optical lenses. Given the description, then I'd have a look at the electronic focus first. A sudden shift in focus suggests that something in that circuit has given out. This would cause the red and blue images to go soft enough to create a halo around objects on screen.

Red, green and blue colors don't match up on screen.

Please replace convergence out ICs (usually two) in TV.
If it is Hitachi 43UWX10B then its convergence out ICs are available in Part Store
Thanks.

Blue gun out of focus

There is a manual focus adjustment above and between the red and green gun, located in the front of the TV behind the panel; It is a small black box about 3X3" . This has all three adjustments .

54" Projection TV

Your green gun in our tv is misagligned/out of focus. Your tv uses red, green and blue guns that layer in different shades and mix to create the different colors. Your green is a little off so the colors aren't mixing right which explains the green haze and the shadows. A tv repair man can fix this problem pretty easily and it isnt expenisve.

Screen all blue

Try looking into the blue CRT lens while its on and see if the coolant has congealed. You will be able to tell if it has bacteria growing as this can cause the blue to be unresposive and make your screen have a blue haze. The coolant will need changing if this is congealed with bacteria. This is a common problem in all projection tvs blue and green are more prone to this sympton red is not.

Sony KP 48S75 Rear Projection Red Haze around objects on screen

Sometimes this can be caused by excessive dust buildup on the lens over the red picture tube, and if you have access to that part of the set, that is where I would start. If it is clean, then you could have the red tube out of focus either due to a bad focus block or if you were lucky, a minor adjustment may fix it. If the set was over 8 years old, I'd consider replacing it with a HDTV model. Check out Consumer Reports latest issue for a start.
