Could be that you are using the wrong type of DVD ? There are two formats DVD+R, DVD+RW etc and DVD-R, DVD-RW etc. Some machines are capable of using either, others can use one of the two formats.
My other suggestion is that some machines are picky about which manufacturer's DVDs they will use.

The DVD-RW will work at random, some brands will wok better than others. Memprex, Sony, Maxell are 3 I can use sometimes. Once the disk is accepted it must be formatted. Click that and if accepted, first do a record for say 2 minutes to see if ti works.

If it works don't take it out until you're ready to finalize it.
That's mostly so the disk will be readable in other players, should it not want to go back in, you probably lost the record.
Don't write on the back, use a card and keep it in the cover.

Sometimes I can use those disk's in PC for data.

That is odd, the only other option is buy a DVD cleaning kit and follow the instructions it might solve your problem.

have you tried recording on a standare DVD disk, either DVD+R or RW or DVD-R/RW? if those don't work either, you have a bad recorder.

I have a Toshiba HDD&DVD vcr RD-XV48DTKB will not accept disc or play any disc have tried several makes even new ones it just loads then says error cannot play eject will not play or record HELP

TDK , SONY, FUJI, HP, 4.7 x4 DVD+RW will work fine

You can delete titles on a DVD+/-R, but it will not free up disc space. These are not "rewritable (RW)" disks.

To reuse discs, start with a DVD +/-RW. Be sure to format it "VR," not "Video."

turned off the dvd recorder at power outlet. Left overnight. Turned on again in morning and pressed open/close and managed to get the dvd drawer to open. No further problems
