Just recently, the left and right main speaker outputs have quit working. I know it the output in the receiver because I have switched the cables and speakers to other outputs and they work fine, so it is confined to the receiver's output for the main speakers. Seems odd that both speakers outputs quit working at the same time. Any suggestions as what to do?

My unit does the same thing, I read online to install a RCA Patch cord from Main-In to Main Out and it worked.
I contacted Yamaha and they wanted to charge me to fix the issue and they will not fix it under warranty because I did not buy the unit from a authorized Yamaha dealer. Obviously a design flaw.

Make sure that you have the correct input signal selected.
Also, check if the sound is not muted.
If you have a multi-room speaker switch, make sure it is set correctly to main speakers.

Yes, sounds like your DSP chip has an issue. Not an inexpensive repair if that's the culpret. Around 400-500 to replace the chip. It's an awesome receiver and worth 300-400 in repair, however, a 3800 or 1800 can be had for 600-800 depending where you look. If you need more help, post a comment and I can help you some more.

I have the same issue. I took the speaker apart and tested with a meter and both the mid and tweater were wide open, in short blow out. Not sure what caused this but the speaker needs to be replaced.
