Random series of beeps from Gateway 300C

I have a random series of beeps when Windows XP is running on my Gateway 300C. The beeps are not occuring when I am in the BIOS setup utility but start up and continue when Windows starts up

The beeps are at random and sometimes are one or two. When there are two the second beep is lower in pitch than the first. Sounds very much like the old "pong" games.

I've run virus checks with nothing found. All PC functions and apps appear to be working normally.

    Slick54,

Thanks for you feedback and support.

Yes, this is a older machine, with a 2001 build date.

I checked the memory seen by the PC and it is the same as the installed memory.

I'm going to change out the BIOS battery next.

Hello wlammert,

I unfortunately need a few more details from you. The machine randomly beeps when you are completely logged into windows while you are performing generals tasks? If you can verify that the amount of memory the computer is reading is the same as what you actually have installed. Do this by right clicking on my computer, select properties and look at the bottom of the general tab. This is to ensure that your memory isn't starting to fail so we can remove that possibility. This model is from 2001 or so correct?

How many beeps do you get, this is very important to your solution.

Gateway SX2850-33: Both the wired keyboard and mouse lock up for no apparent reason sometimes after several hours. Reboot corrects the problem until next occurance.

are you sure the keyboard and mouse locking aren't a symptom of another problem? use your computer until it locks again, once it does restart the machine and when it loads press the windows key and the R key at the same time, in the run dialogue type eventvwr, look at the system and application events and look for red X's which are hard errors. then copy/paste the results here

I would go to the Gateway website (http://www.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads) and see if your model has a driver update. Drivers Downloads listed for Vista but it should work for Win7-64 bit.

Programs shut down at random

Have you checked in your case to see if all your fans are working? May be a heat problem in power supply, CPU. Get this software and install to check the actual temps on your motherboard.
