The screen comes on, but it won't let me select anything by touching. From the first screen where it comes up with the Agree button and then when I can enter in either the map or address. Didn't know if there was a way to reset or how to get it to work. Have had this problem before but it usually started working after a few mintues this has been days now.

Has this been solved? Hold power switch to right for about 30 seconds then follow on screen help to recalibrate screens
SOURCE: I have a Garmin Nuvi 255W and the screen will not work
it could be your digitizer or it could be locked up...try turning it on,
then hold the slide switch to turn it off for about 15 seconds, then
power it back on...if that fails, with the unit off, press and hold the
lower right corner of the screen and then slide the power switch toward
the on position and you should see a screen asking if you want to erase
all personal data (note: this will erase al your favorites) let go of
screen and select yes and follow on screen instructions...
if
none of those solutions work, download the web updater and see if you
have the latest updates.

fail..i would say you need a digitizer ...there about 20-30 on ebay

There is a hard reset button under the sticker at the bottom of the
unit. It is located directly under the check mark on the sticker. Once you get it going fully charge the unit then go to the Garmin website and register and update your 255w. I will attach the link to the Garmin Site. Thanks for using FixYa

I have held the start button for like 15 sec. get to the screen where you can recalibrate it. You could hit that screen all night long while pressing the dot. That works but it does not stop unless I turn it off??? I have tried pressing the right side of the lower level while turning it on and I am not getting any pop up boxes at all.
It had worked fine for me on saturday afternoon and then went to use it saturday evening and could not get it to work to type anything in.
