Yes it should be OK.
If you want to also shoot movies with this Sony camers then a fast SD memory card is recommended ie. Class 6 or higher.

Have you tried reformatting your memory card itself?

Before anything else.... you must examine first if your card is not damage, How? Try to test it in the memory card readers or other camera that fit the same memory cards.
Some other cards do have lock option in the jacket of the card. Try to unlock it. After doing so reformat the memory card in to your cam.
Other option...... Some other cam do have internal memory, if you have the same, configured it out.

Rshutterbug Do you think these are AA batteries we are talking about here? Who wants to throw away 30 bucks for a new battery, if we are trying to fix the one that came with the camera. Obviously if we had spare batteries laying around, we'd simply try another. As a matter of fact I think even a MONKEY would try that before researching solutions on the web. HOWEVER, these are kinda pricey batteries we are talking about here. BTW...Since around 2005 MOST cameras come with recharble batteries. WTF?
