Part of my viking griddle keeps flaking. it's the part near the front. it's very strange. the rest of the griddle works fine. Any idea why this is happening and how to prevent it?
I have the same thing happening with my Viking griddle. I have nearly the whole top seasoned to a jet-black state - and it is stick free!! Now up near the front edge the coating/seasoning is chipping off. I've just been taking the loose chips off and not worrying about it too much, it maybe the size of a half dollar at this point. The front edge of the griddle is the hot spot on mine; and I've learned to adapt my cooking techniques. My guess is the hot spot on my griddle is responsible for the flaking...

Check the amperage draw to the igniter, if it is over 3amps and no gas, first off check the valve on the manifold behind then control panel if the valve is open then check the wiring to the thermal valve if it is connected then it would appear that the thermal valve is defective.

replace the hotplate ignitor. you may in the future have simmilar problems with the ovens or broiler, there are 4 ignitors in my unit I have replaced each at lease once. it seems to be a weak link in the design. If you need more information contact c2d6c2 at yahoo

I get the same sound but I found it is actually coming from my stainless steel backsplash, it seems like the heat makes it flex from time to time.
