I have a brand new DCD950 dewalt cordless drill, 18v battery. I used a larger diameter bit to drill holes into a couple of wood posts. After this project, I could not get the jaws to release the bit. Finally got it loose using some grips to hold the drill steady. Now that piece is out, the nose will not rotate to tighten or loosen the jaws that hold the bit! Is there any steps I might take to try to remedy this without having to send in for service? I am needing it for simple drilling tasks now!
Hmmm some times the counterclockwise screw that attaches the chuck to the drill come forward and that is how then it stucks the 3 parts that fix a drill to a chuck. Check if this screw come forward. If yes then destroy it and replace it... We destroy it by using a drill smaller than it (usually it is 5mm so we use 4mm bit and of course a CARBIDE one because even cobalt ones can not drill a hardened bolt)

I had this problem on my De Walt DW912- I simply couldnt turn the keyless chuck to remove the screwdriver bit and there was no obvious reason why.
I placed the unit on a solid surface so that the chuck/ drill bit was pointing vertical. I then used a mallet and a metal chisel to gently tap each of the 3 chuck jaws back into the chuck body. It worked!
Turned out that there was the absolute tiny amout of corrosion between the jaws, and the chuck and my tapping had just broken the siezure. I now remember that it started to rain slightly last time I used it.
Some spray release agent or perhaps WD40 would probably have done the same job but I wouldnt have believed so little corrosion could have done this so didnt realise this was the problem.

Hi, soak the chuck in crc overnight then put the drill in low speed and reverse. Hold the chuck by hand or with multi grips and pull the trigger. Hope this helps, regards Phil.
