Most of these sets use two boards--one for right and another of course for left---different names use different descriptions-----some use also back lights for each side but it is really rare for just one of those to fail.

If you GOOGLE the model number search "boards" "known problems" to see what is available and at what cost.

Hey Steve,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you have a bad LCD panel tab. There are videos on youtube that show you how to repair this but they are temporary in nature.

Dark Screen

It sounds like a back-light problem. Check all the CCFL back-lights.

Screen too dark

did you tried to make an adjustment in brightness in the set up menu,if the adjustment is good then still too dark. you must check the connector for screen back light which loose from the inverter board. at this time you will need to removed the rear cover to access the inverter board.

Left side of screen is dark

When you say the screen is dark, do you mean that the picture is still faintly visible or is the left side black with a sharp edge between the black and the visible picture?

If the screen is dark with a faintly visible picture then you have a faulty backlight. This could be due to the inverter board, which can be repaired or replaced, or it could be the CCFL tube which is a bit harder to replace.
If the left side is completely black with a sharp edge then the LCD itself is faulty and may require replacing.

In any case, any of the problems listed above should only be repaired by a competant electronics engineer.

Last night the screen started going dark, then went out, black

If still under warranty, I would suggest going that way as this is a bad matrix driver....
