They were working fine one day and the next are distorted and scratchy sounding . . .
If you have just purchased these speakers, it is likely a loose piece inside, or the plastic buttons on front vibrating loudly when sound is played.
Quick fix:
Place a piece of tape over the buttons on the front.
Longer fix:
1. Remove both phillips head screws from the back.
2. Remove speaker guard. It is held on with 3 pressure pins. With a small flat head screwdriver, You can get underneath the guard and apply force. The trick, is to focus your net force perpendicular to the face of the speaker. You don't have to be too gentle, but be wary of flexing the plastic guard too much or it may break.
3. Remove both phillips head screws from the front.
4. Open speaker unit and remove two small screws from circuit board.
5. Cut two pieces of soft tissue paper big enough to fill the button housing underneath the circuit board. (The thinking here, is that the tissue will dampen any rattling from the buttons. Don't worry! The buttons will still work).
6. Re-assemble the speaker, taking care to tighten all screws.

Try the speakers on another PC with good working sound. This will indicate either a speaker problem or a sound card issue.
If speakers work ok on 2nd pc, then you have a sound card issue on your pc. If speakers are still scratchy on 2nd pc.. check the metal connector end, make sure it is clean and shiny. If there is any rust or other oxidation, clean it off with a very fine grade of sand paper

I live in the Netherlands and i hear radio from UK, Russia and other languages. It's true it's in evening. Weather here now are rain in thunderstorm, i thought thunderstorms maybe could be the problem. Yesterday evening i heard nothing of the radio station. Hearing that radio staions is against FCC rulles. So it's possible to complain about it to radio stations. Im going to contact Logitecht tmorrow about this problem. I keep you updated.
SOURCE: One of my speakers sounds scratchy as well.
This usually points to a torn cone on the speaker itelf or dirt that has somehow gotten into the speaker coil.
if its dirt then a can of compressed air for cleaning computers sometimes does the trick but it does mean opening up the speaker after you disconnect it.
