You may have hardware issues or the window files are corrupted, if you made a backup recovery on a DVD disc try it know, if that fails the hard drive needs to be assessed for replacement.

Get a bootable Install CD for whatever version of Windows and re-install windows from the CD drive. (Windows XP Home I imagine). If the laptop won;t boot from a CD you can alter the BIOS settings to allow it. If you don;t care about your documents, do a DESTRUCTIVE install which will wipe your Hard Disk.  Beware if you do a non-destructive install  that if your problems originated from a virus it could still be on your Hard Disk. If you need help with getting the BIOS  settings changed lemme know.

Sounds like a new machine. Take it back for replacement or servicing. You may very well have a hardware problem.

SOURCE: Sony VISTA...operating system can't be found

Kathryn:
The FAT (File Allocation Table) is corrupted..
Find a freeware program to restore a corrupted FAT.
there are 2 FATs on your HD. A Backup if one gets corrupted.
If it can be restored you can retrieve all your original data. If not then you will have to go to the Sony Website and purchase a set of recovery disks for you particular model. Cost $25-$30
The disks will restore your computer to the original configuration.
All data ie. music, programs, photo's etc will be lost..

My lenovo t400 has a black screen with a lock symbol on the top left corner. I'm not an administrator, so it might make it a little more difficult... any idea how to fix it?

I understand that you can't access your lenovo because it's locked. Since you can't access it anymore, we should reset it to default settings so that your laptop's system will be refreshed.
The process of resetting a laptop to factory settings wipes off the contents of the computer's hard drive. This is ideal for those who wish to delete personal information before selling their laptops and those who need to eliminate some computer problems. Some manufacturers save the system restore files on a small partition on the hard drive, while others provide disks containing these files. Regardless of the method you use, the system restore process could last from 45 minutes to an hour.

1.
Back up your files. Save important documents, pictures and music to removable storage media, such as a flash drive or a CD.
2. Place your recovery disk into the disk drive and restart your laptop. This will launch a program to guide you through the system recovery process. Follow the directions onscreen to restore the laptop to factory settings.
3. Access the system recover files stored on the hard drive. Restart your computer. Watch the black screen for instructions on which function key to press to access the computer management module. The function key used varies by manufacturer, but the keys commonly used are F2, F8, F10 and F11. Select the option to reset the computer from the list of options in the management module. Follow the directions to begin the process.
4. Wait for the computer to complete the process. This could last up to an hour. The program may prompt you to restart the computer at the end of the process. If you reset the laptop with system restore disks, make sure you remove the disks from the disk drive before you restart the system.
I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you.

How do i access the recovery partition on a sony vaio vgn-nr220e laptop

If the recovery software was put on a second partician, you would access it by turning on the pc and watching the lower right side of the screen during start up to read what keys are necessary to start the recovery process. You didn't mention what operating system you are using and each one has a different key to enter the bios and second partician area. It is usually F2, or delete. Some use F8. It will tell you what key to enter the area during the start up before the windows screen is displayed.

If the recovery software is not on a second partician of your hard drive, then go into system recovery using windows (start, programs, accessories, system tools and then slide over to system recovery) and just follow the prompts.

if you have the system recover disks, put one in the drive and restart the pc until it launches using it and then follow the prompts.

My lenovo ideapad y560's monitor won't open. the monitor is pitched black.

Hi thelzy,

I see that your Lenovo Y560 is having issues showing no Video, you mentioned that you only get a Black screen when booting.

I am assuming that there is still power on the machine but no video at all, Just to ask do you still see the Lenovo Splash screen? if not then we can try doing a power cycle on the machine.

* Remove the battery on the system unhook the Power Cord/AC adapter as well then press and hold down the power button of your Y560 Laptop for about 15 seconds then let go.

*After Doing the Power Cycle connect the AC Adapter again but leave the battery out for the time being then turn the compute ON, check to see if it will show the Lenovo Splash screen if it does then we're in progress and should show windows Loading up on the LCD screen.

*If it does not show the lenovo Splash screen then most probably the BIOS screen never showed as well on the issue.

*Connect the battery back n the machne turn it ON again check if it will show anything on the screen, if not then see below.

*We can try connecting an external mnitor to the system using a VGA connection it should show us the Screen on the external monitor if not then it means that Windows as well is not booting on your Laptop.

*Check the indicator Lights on the Laptop, one of the Lights will be a cylinder icon on the Laptop check if there is any activity from that light if there is no Light or any avtivity to any of the indicator lights then your Y560 is having issue with the Motherboard.

I hope this info Helps.

Have a nice day.

My lenovo y560 i5 hangs every hour. nothing i can do, only pushing the power button for 10 seconds helps me to restart the computer. what could it be?

You can try to go Safe Mode with Networking by restarting the system then tap F8. Then you need to download the latest graphic driver on Lenovo Website. Click here. and Latest driver from ATI. Click here. This is a known issue with y560 using switchable graphic.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Windows failed to boot. I have tried booting it from the disc. Any ideas?

Try launching the One Key Recovery program.
1. Back up all files that
you wish to keep from the C: drive
2. Turn off the computer (no
flashing lights).
3. Press the Lenovo Care Button (small button with
upside down arrow or word NOVO written on it).
4. Select System
Recovery (very much different from the above mentioned System Restore).
5. Select to restore to factory default settings / initial settings.
