Please help me : about Casio Exilim s500 Camera

Dear Jackboy :

In the post http://www.fixya.com/support/t159925-casio_exilim_s500_horizontal_lines_in

Your reply says that CASIO have a recall on certain models,
could you send me more infomation about that.

In Taiwan, A lot of the CASIO buyers also have the same problems about white-washed(over-exposed) and horizontal lines.
But the Casio Tech support team always persist in their opinion and irresponsibly ask buyers to pay repair fee (US 100 dollars).
It's really bad to suffer this kind of the unacceptable thing.

As above, I'll appreciate that you could help us to have more infomation.

Thank You and Best Regard

You don't. That is something that Casio will have to fix. Call 18007062534 and choose option 2. Tell them you have a stabilizer error and they will tell you how to go about sending it in.

SOURCE: casio exilim EX-S500 overexpose

If the photo shoot out show white , the obscure (quality variation), and even horizontal line ( white lines), and so on over-exposure cases, even if the use of anti-tremor, set to default values are invalid, because the camera shutter fault.

It's need repair camera machine shutter.

SOURCE: overexposed photos in otherwise normal settings in casio ex-s500

It is the shutter (or at least it was for me) I found a simple test here: http://www.mydc.com.tw/repair/knowledge_en/casio-exilim-ex-s600-overexposure-t17.html
I repaired it myself, but it took me a whole afternoon and lots of patience.
The hard part is taking the camera apart, once I got to the shutter I just activated it manually so to dislodge any pieces that might have gotten jammed, then placed it back together again and it worked! :).
It's really hard to take apart, it's like a puzzle sometimes, to find which screws are keeping it together. I also had a bit of hard time when it came to put the zoom back together again.
But I guess it beats throwing the camera away.
I'm still puzzled on how the CCD works so that an overexposure would make horizontal overexposed lines, but everything points to that. Fixed shutter, lines be gone.

Casio Exilim s500--horizontal lines in picture and autofocus creates blurry pics

It appears this problem is due a failing CCD device in many brand cameras. All the manufactures use the same source(s). I have not persued Casio as yet, but other companies are offering a recall to replace the CCD for free. I plan to use this approach with Casio. Search the web for "failing CCD in digital camera", it describes exactly what we are observing.

you camera shutter is stuck at close position, you will need to open
the thing up to repair.

As for the totally dark screen, either your LCD or driver board is bad. You will need to open and replace the broken part.
