Start by Identifying what type of Card you need to buy. The Manual would be Extremely helpful in identifying What type of Video card slot you have. If that option is out you can look in the device manager and that should tell you what type.

There are many types For any modern Cards your Hoping for an AGP or PCIe Slot bare minimum you need a pci slot.

If you have a Vesa or ISA slot you'd be better off spending money on a new Motherboard & CPU

Once you know what type of card to buy PCI, AGP, or PCIe go out and look for the best card that fits your budget and that your PC meets its requirements

Most new Vid cards require a power supply connection or sometimes two or a special power supply adapter in addition to the available card slot PCIe comes in different speeds x1 x8 an x16 Make sure you have the right one that your card needs before buying. AGP likewise comes in 2 varieties AGP and AGP2 they have a different pin count on their edge connector so make sure what connector it has. PCI just about every semi modern PC has at least 2 PCI slots question is are the currently filled with other cards

Once you've purchased your card, you need to determine if you have an integrated video card.
This would be a video connection that is built into your motherboard.
If you do then you need to look up how to enter your BIOS to disable it (Usually pressing<Delete> or <F12> during boot up. Then go through and change the on board video card to disabled

press <F10> to save and exit
power down PC
Unplug power cord
Remove case cover and install new Video card
Replace case cover and plug back in
Boot up PC
Get Operating system up
insert the CD that came with the new card to install drivers and utilities (Another alternative is to go to the website for the GPU or card manufacturer and get the latest drivers) [ often times the drivers on the install disc are already outdated]

reboot ....... Congratulations your need Vid Card is install Now go play that game your dying to beat ;)

Hope this helps

Compaq Presario V6500 has on board graphics card a separate card be installed, are there any options.

You can install a better graphics card in the AGP slot. You most likely need to disable the on board graphics card from the BIOS.

Graphics card upgrade on Acer Extensa 5230E-901G16Mn laptop

Unfortunately, laptops are generally locked down in terms of graphics cards. The GPU is integrated into the laptop mainboard due to space constraints.

Your only option if tied down to a laptop for any reason would be to purchase a more recent laptop with a specific graphics card in it.

Any discrete (NVIDIA or ATI) graphics card that was manufactured after 2008 should be sufficient to run most games.

If you're looking to play games on more intense graphic settings, your best bet would be to look for laptops with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M/240M or better, or the ATI Mobility Radeon 4600/5400 or better. Either brand with at least 512 MB of video RAM will work well.

"Call of Duty" runs in slow motion on my PC.

Hi thomas,

Upgrading video cards will definitely increase in performance. You asked whether you should upgrade your entire PC or just the card and that really depends on the hardware you are running. If all of your hardware just barely meets the requirements than upgrading the videocard WILL give you a noticeable improvement but obviously it will not be as good as getting a better CPU and more RAM as well as a new card.

A good measure of a cards performance is based on the series of cards it is from. Your Geforce is from the 6000 series of Nvidia cards, they have 7000, 8000, and even 9000 series cards atm.

I would recommend something like an XFX Geforce 9800 GTX+ series card with 512MB of onboard memory, or any other competing card in the 200$ price range. This will definitely give you an increase in performance, and is a very popular card.

Hope this helps and please take a second to rate!

I want better grafics

For better graphics, Please do one of the following.

1) If you have a very high RAM, You can share a part of it through bios for video processing. This will help you pitch your graphics a bit more.

2) If your system is having low ram, Upgrade your RAM to higher range.

3) If you want exceptional graphics, You will need to install a graphics card with high ram. NVIDIA and ATI Raedon sells few of the best graphics cards.

When you install a new video card you must disable the onboard video card by going into the bios setup. Below I have listed the requirements of Second life game. e 531 does come with PCI-E slots so make sure you buy a VIDEO card with PCI-E Walmart sells some pretty decent priced Graphics cards. pretty much any pci-e card you buy new in walmart these days will be fine for this game.

PC Minimum System Recommendations:

* Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL

* Computer Processor: 1.6GHz Pentium 4 or Athlon 2000+ or better

* Computer Memory: 512MB or better

* Video/Graphics Card**:
o nVidia GeForce FX 5600, GeForce 6600, or better

Installing NVidia 8500GT XFX 256MB graphics to A8N-VM Motherboard

The chances are that you have an old motherboard which is not compatable with the new graphic card. Or you may be running windows 98 and are downloading the driver for xp or visa versa. The probable solution, will be to sell the new card on ebay and buy the best old card you can off ebay. Or just make do with the card you already had in your computer. If you are determined to have a better graphics card. A motherboard upgrade with better graphic card may be the best answer or buy a better spec pc second hand if you don't have much money. You'll probably waiste a lot of time trying to get the new card to work and it probably never will.
