Dell M60 volume buttons

The volume buttons on my M60 do not work. The fn + up/down volume works on the keyboard. But the separate volume and mute buttons do not work. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I installed Dell Quickset. It did not help. The volume buttons that are separate from the keyboard still do not work. Any other ideas? Thanks

At the left of your power button, past the word PRECISION, there is a slot for a screwdriver. With the screen fully open, use that slot to remove the power and volume buttons. At the other end of the stip you removed will be the connector that connects the buttons to the motherboard. Reconnect it better. I had this problem too.

I have a dell d520 laptop and it has no sound. Also I cant find the volume button. Where is the sound card placed?

Hi,

The sound card is inside the laptop and is part of the motherboard. This means that you cannot take the sound card out and replace it.

You may need to reinstall the audio drivers for the machine but check first that the volume has not been muted. Look to the bottom right of the screen for an icon that looks like a speaker and click on that and see if it has been muted or just turned down.
If there is no speaker icon there it may have disappeared from the system tray. You can use your keyboard to turn the volume up or down and to mute and un-mute it.
The keyboard toggles are as follows >>>

To turn the volume up hold down Fn and press the PageUp key.
To turn the volume down hold down Fn and press the PageDn key.
To mute hold down Fn and press the End key.

It is also a good idea to check in the BIOS to make sure the on-board audio has not been disabled.

If there is anything else please post back.

Good luck and kind regards.

Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop with FN Volume issues.

Starbug1S1- This may have been something you have already checked but I will suggest anyways. You said you had control of your sound from other means - Sounds and Audio Devices properties was one- did you notice a check box that reads Place volume icon on the task bar. This may remedy part of your problem if you put a check in the box. Hopefully this helps. Thanks.

Volume buttons and mute/unmute buttons don't work

First open the Control Panel -> Keyboard Layout. Look for the dropdown list for different keyboard models. Scroll to the Dell models and try e.g. the Dell Mulimedia USB Keyboard layout. Stop the GUI with Ctl+Alt+Return, login again and maybe your multimedia buttons will work now.
and for more info contact http://tinyurl.com/m7ghqz
If there is no keyboard layout that fits your needs, you may download the programs keytouch and keytouch editor, which are very helpful creating your own layout.

Keyboard volume control???

Based on years of using computers and seeing many keyboards when I used to do IT work, typically it's not standard for many keyboards to have that, sometimes different keyboards might have an "fn" key though which will allow for other options displayed on keys such as volume up or down. I can suggest a keyboard for you with the media keys if you really need it, anyways I hope you're having a good day, and that I helped somehow.

My speakers do not work

The Dell has a "Fn" key. The "Fn" used with other keys control special features. I have a Dell keyboard here, on it holding the "Fn" and pressing "End" will alternately mute/unmute the speakers. "Fn" + "Page up" will raise volume, "Fn" + "Page down" will lower. You may have the volume muted, or turned all the way down.
The keyboard I have is from an 1100, your "Fn" key combinations may vary from mine.

Fn+f2 / fn+f10 / volume up/down: icon not shown on screen

Hi frth,

I think you didn't install the application called the "DELL QUICKSET UTILITY" that's why you haven't been seeing the onscreen indicators at all.

You can install the application using the Drivers and Resource CD of your laptop. Or if you don't have the discs then you can download the file at this location:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=WRK_NBK_PNT_P4_M60

Look under the category of APPLICATIONS then under that you should the Dell Application -Quickset, download and install it. And that should fix your issue.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
