I need to know how to do a manual set so i can set the clock to the exact time i want. It keeps going around and setting to its own time. I am on NY EST
When you put in a new battery, the hands advance to the hour and stop. It then waits to receive a radio signal and sets the time.
to do a manual set, insert the battery and hold down the M button until the correct time. Don't go past it or you will need to continue until it comes up again. There is no reverse.
The previous answers don't fit the HD-1688 Sheng Bang clock mechanism that I have.
On the Sheng Bang HD-1688 make sure you remove the locking pin from the back. It keeps the gears from moving while in shipment. Insert a new battery. Set the timezone switch to Pacific, Mountain, Central, or Eastern. Set the daylight savings switch to "On" unless you're in a state that doesn't observe it (Arizona, Hawaii...) The second hand will sweep to the 12:00 position and the hour hand to the 4:00 position, and the minute hand to the 12:00 position (I think. It may sweep to the 4:00 position too. The instructions aren't clear on this point). Place the hour, minute and second hands onto the clock shaft in that configuration. Press the "REC" button for five seconds to force the mechanism to seek a radio signal. Make sure you're near a window for best reception. It may take an hour or more for the clock to find a good signal. This works best at night.

Place your Seth Thomas atomic clock face-down on a table or desk and locate a series of buttons labeled "PST," "MST," "CST" and "EST" on the back of the clock. Press the appropriate button to set the time zone.
Turn your attention to the small lithium battery-powered digital clock display on the back of your clock. With the correct time zone set, the digital display should accurately reflect the current local time.
Locate the AA battery compartment on the back of your clock. Put two new AA batteries into your clock's battery compartment.
Set the "Mode" switch on the back of your Seth Thomas atomic clock to "Run." Wait for it to adjust to the correct time. The automatic time-adjustment process can take up to 45 minutes, but is usually completed much sooner.
