How do I tell if my Olympus 790SW is damaged or if the battery needs replaced?

Water got inside camera. thought we had it dried out, but now power flickers, have to reset date nearly every time we turn it on; camera locks up and won't turn off.

Unfortuneately when water enters the camera this is usually a one way ticket, I recommend you remove the memory card to save your pictures, the liquid has already started eating into the ic pins eventually sending the camera into cascade failure that can take days, weeks, and months before the full extent is known. I recommend you consider replacing the camera.

I recently used my camera model 790SW but I forgot to shift the setting to underwater mode, when I reinserted the battery the light for flash lights up permanently and I couldn't turn on the camera. I also...

the first thing i would try is removing the battery and memory card, leave them and the camera to dry out fully in a warm room for a couple of days, you never know it might be enough to fix it.( worked for me with a mobile phone )

Camera won't turn on

Hey Scott102303,
I would definitely try a new battery first, and before you do that you should clean the battery contacts. If this doesn't work you should have it looked at by an authorized service technician, but I will say that digital camera repairs often exceed the value of the camera. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Battery was put in backward in camera cant get it out

You should probaly listen to the manual and take it to a dealer or phone Olympus about sending it in because it is probaly possible to disasemble the camera to get it out your self but doing so would void your warranty.

I hope you get your problem fixed!!

Maintain all-weather capability of my camera

The camera loses its weatherproof capability if the battery compartment cover, connector cover or DC-IN jack cover is open. Make sure that all the covers are closed before using the camera. •Wipe any water off the camera before changing the battery or card. •If the camera gets splashed, wipe the water off as soon as possible with a dry cloth. Salt water spray or droplets can cause damage to the camera if the camera is not wiped dry as soon as possible. •Do not apply excessive force to or attempt to peel off the rubber packing of the battery compartment cover, connector cover or DC-IN jack cover. •If the rubber packing becomes worn or damaged, contact your nearest Olympus service center. (A charge is made for replacement of parts.) •If the rubber packing of the battery compartment cover, connector cover or DC-IN jack cover contains dirt or sand, wipe it off before closing the cover, otherwise water may get inside the camera. •The rechargeable battery and other camera accessories are not weatherproof. Care should be taken when using the accessories.
