Youre laptop is overheating,Make sure when using laptop on bed or carpet floor put laptop on hard book or hard surface so air can vent from bottom.Buy an air can and blow thru heatsink vent were hot air comes out also heatsink could be clogged with dust.Air the whole laptop. They also sell laptop cooler pads which you can buy for like 25 bucks at tigerdirect.com .hope my solution helps you.make it a great day.

Where is the laptop when it's charging? If it's on a bed, reflective surface or on your lap you may be blocking some of the cooling ports and as it generates more heat when charging it may be overheating.
Also if it's in a hot environment same thing.
Are you running Windows or a different OS such as a Linux distribution?
Lastly (just to cover all bases) is there a particular program you run on charge for the sake of performance?
Nick. :)
Wow! bit quick to rate a solution at the start of the diagnostic process! You still haven't even answered the questions about environment, OS and programs?
You need to check the BIOS version as the BIOS handles power control, the latest version is 1.43 and it's especially needed if you're lumbered with Vista. you can download the latest BIOS image from:http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/not...
The download includes full instructions on running the update. Don't be so quick to judge, resolving a problem like this is a process that has to be taken step by step rather than just assuming an answer on the basis of minimal initial information.

I have laptop stand and it elevates my laptop high away from whever it sits, this is what I thought at the get go and purchased stand, but didnt seem to work.
I have a similar issue with an ASPIRE 5535. The PC is a couple days old and randomly the screen goes dark as if its a powersave rather than a complete freeze. When it does this I can still put CD's into the ROM and it sounds as if it is reading and executing the disk but I just can't see it.
Brand new Acer 5535. Randomly locks up, Blank screen.
I don't think it's a heat problem, as it's on a desk in a cool room.
Doesn't even feel warm
My note warm too fast and so turn off Acer expire 5315-2506
