I had the same issue on a 2010 smh9151w samsung microwave after installing it and using it with no problem for 5 days. The second time we unplugged the microwave and turned the circuit breaker off and on we didn't reset the clock on the microwave so the display shows :0 and it has been working for 7 days straight now. Fingers crossed that this is a long term solution. Hope this helps. Thanks!

SOURCE: kenmore microwave model number 401.80084700 Displaying -SE-/-5E-

-SE- error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

There are three ways you can get it fixed:

DE34-00178X SWITCH MEMBRANE $20.30
ref#53 membrane keypad
take yours off as in the video at our site, peel the old keypad off as in this handy guide with pictures , clean the surface, stick on the new keypad
order by part number here
(We can do this job for you for a total of $70.25, but as you can see, the other two options are more practical and economical)

DE94-01647A ASY CONTROL PANEL $39.01
ref#66 control panel frame with keypad
take yours off as in the video at our site, disconnect the keypad strip as shown here, move your circuit board to the new frame, reinstall
order by part number here

DE94-01648A ASY CONTROL, BOX $58.12
ref#59 complete control panel assembly with frame, keypad and circuit board
take yours off as in the video at our site, then install the new one
order by part number here

If these parts are not in stock, they should be available in about a week or so.

SOURCE: The microwave display shows "--SE--" I have not

SE error indicates a short in the keypad assembly. This will mean the the control panel or smart board will need to be replace.

Microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects. Microwaves are extremely dangerous to work on even while unplugged. Even unplugged some components retain a lethal amount of voltage.

Here is a link for the website and contact technician: Sears Home Services .

Hope helps.

Why is my Samsung microwave model smh9151w showing 5e-1 and beeps

Unless there is grease, moisture, or some other foreign material deposits on your control circuit board, "SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

For the official repair information as per the Samsung bulletin, see http://www.microwavecontrol.com/samsung_se_error.htm

SMH9151W--se ERROR MESSAGE-HOW TO FIX

The 5E error indicates a problem with the key pad. The microwave computer believes there is a short between the key pad and the central board. You may be able to temporarily reset the error by unplugging the microwave for at least 30 seconds. (In some cases, tripping your circuit breaker may be an easier way to disconnect the power to an over the range microwave.)

Some people have been able to solve the code by cleaning the contacts in the wiring harness. The recommended solution is to replace the assembly control panel (switch membrane, window and control panel). See http://www.searspartsdirect.com/samsung-microwave-parts/model-SMH9151WXAA0000/1482/0123370/50041332/00004.html for a parts diagram and some prices.

Since microwaves have capacitors that store significant amounts of energy, you may want a professional to take apart the microwave and do the repair.

I hope this helps.

Usually that means you have a shorted keypad, and to fix it you usually have to replace the control console/keypad assembly.

The display panel readout has a 5E or possibly a SE on the dislplay constantly

SE error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

You have a shorting membrane keypad. If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

We would need the model number in order to provide you with free assistance.

It will be one of these:

SMH9151B
SMH9151B/XAA
SMH9151B/XAC
SMH9151BE
SMH9151BE/XAA
SMH9151S
SMH9151S/XAA
SMH9151ST
SMH9151ST/XAA
SMH9151ST/XAC
SMH9151STE
SMH9151STE/XAA
SMH9151W
SMH9151W/XAA
SMH9151W/XAC

It is usually found on a tag located inside the cooking cavity or around the door frame or controller frame.

Since FixYa is still not notifying us when you respond to clarification requests, you will have to post a new help request with your model number and symptoms / questions, or you may contact us here for this free assistance.

In some cases, it is a simple do it yourself repair.

Recently purchased this microwave (4-5 months ago) 5E error light comes on. Unplugged worked for short period - lights came on and off, things started beeping and the 5E came back on. Have repeated this...

"SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad. It's not uncommon for it to be intermittent or partially operable.

Since it's under warranty, I would contact Samsung for a free fix. See your owner's manual.

Microwave keypad does not respond and screen reads SE

"SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

The exact part you need will depend on the model number, which will be one of these:

SMH9151B SMH9151B/XAA SMH9151B/XAC SMH9151BE SMH9151BE/XAA SMH9151S SMH9151S/XAA SMH9151ST SMH9151ST/XAA SMH9151ST/XAC SMH9151STE SMH9151STE/XAA SMH9151W SMH9151W/XAA SMH9151W/XAC SMH9151WE SMH9151WE/XAA.

On some models, you can just order a new membrane keypad and replace it. It's cheap, but a lot of work.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved. It's here.

On other models,
the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job, but it costs more.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help and a free estimate for us to do it for you.
