SOURCE: Thin Horizontal Line on TV screen
I had the same problem on a 36" Hitachi TV about 7 years old. After reading comments on this and other pages I went and bought a soldering iron not knowing what I was going to do with it.
After trying to find a loose connection with the power off- with no success, I then tried with the power on. Not the smartest move, but I was able to find the problem.
If you follow the colored wires (blue, green, red, yellow) from the back of the tube they will come together at a connector that plugs into a card at the bottom of the set. That connection was no secure. Since reseting that connection I have had the clearest picture since puchasing the TV new.
I am sure it is obvious that I don't have an electronics background, and I don't have an explaination as to why this worked. I just know it did. I hope this helps someone.

I have a similar problem on my CRT computer monitor (AcerView 76c). It is an old screen and I think it is just at the end of its life, much like your TV. Having some background in physics, I would be pretty sure that the problem is with the cathode ray tube's vertical deflection system. The horizontal deflection electrodes are working while the vertical one is not. This results in a display of a single horizontal line (or in my case, a few superimposed) in the centre of the screen. Where both X and Y (horizontal and vertical) deflectors fail then the electron gun firing would result in a single bright spot in the dead-centre of the screen.
So really, we have no choice but to move on and buy a new set as repair is probably just as, if not more, expensive than replacement with a new device. Seeing as your post was in 2007, I hope you managed to solve the problem.
Best wishes,
SZ (Sydney, AUS)

Hello,
You are experiencing a lack of vertical deflection or vertical collapse. Since it will come back the first thing I would suspect is “ring cracks” in the solder joint in the vertical circuit, mainly the vertical IC. These suspect solder joint can be re-soldered and the television set repaired.
I would suggest that you contact a local servicer. If you are repairing the set yourself, be careful, there is always a risk of shock when dealing with electronics.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

this symptons is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence, the trouble may be in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuit. in most modern tv the vertical ic is usually composed of these said circuit inside. the ic have many pins, standing on a heat sink and smaller in size. try to check also the capacitors surrounding it. sometimes leaky capacitor may cause this problem. good luck!

some capacitors are faulty in the vertical section of ur tv,, they must be replaced ,calla service pro to replce it 100mfd 50v capacitor
