There are a couple of ways to turn off the wireless. 1) Look for a wireless switch on either side of your laptop or at the front of your laptop. 2) Normally the FN (Function Key) + (F1 thru F8) will toggle the wireless between on and off. To find the correct F1 thru F8 key to hit look for the )))) symbol which denotes wireless. Press and hold the FN key then hit the Function key that corresponds to wireless. Watch your desktop screen because most will display Wireless On or Wireless Off as you hit the keys. If not one sure way to know it is off is look at the computer at the bottom right of the screen near the time, it should go from being a solid green to a computer with a red X on it.

Testimonial: "Thank you. I had already discovered that function after I made my post. I also found that I could go into the control panel and disable it. I failed to mention that it is running Windows 7. Thanks again."

How to turn on bluetooth radio

Which operating system ???...
There are a variety of ways to connect to the Internet or a home/business network using your Hewlett-Packard (HP) desktop computer---via a modem, Ethernet cable and even wirelessly.
A wireless connection works by sending a signal from your modem or router to your HP desktop's built-in wireless radio.
The radio receives and processes the signal so you can access the Internet or a home or business network.
In order for the signal to be received by your HP desktop, you must enable the wireless radio within the computer's configuration.

Click "Start," "Control Panel."
Double-click on the "HP Wireless Assistant" icon.
The HP Wireless Assistant dialog box will open.
Click the "Turn On" button next to the words "Wireless LAN."
Click "Close" to activate the wireless radio.

Wireless radio disabled

If you have a laptop and it has built in wireless adapter, it may have a switch or a button that you need to switch on in to turn on the wireless connection radio. Usually, it can be found on the sides or on the front panel of the laptop. On other laptops, you will need to hit some combination of keys on the laptop's keyboard to turn on the wireless connection radio, for example, Fn+F5. Please refer to the manual of your laptop for reference on how to turn on or enable its wireless radio.

By the way, what is the model of your laptop?

Wireless card

Go into the wireless configuration and see if the radio is enabled. The switch is for manually enabling and disabling the radio, if the radio has been disabled in the configuration then the switch will not work. The other thing you can do is, uninstall the wireless drivers from the device manager and reboot. The machine will find the wireless and reinstall the drivers. This should get it back up and running. NOTE- the radio is the terminology used for the wireless receiver, since the wireless card works on frequency it is considered a radio.
