This is coming form the application that is printing, the printer has no way of "pulling" this information. Print from a different application to verify, say your internet browser. When you post back what application+version+OS is adding this infomation, someone here can tell you how to configure it.
I lke the Canon printers, and wish I had discovered before the last 6 HP's I eventually threw out. How do like the printer?
I don't have word 2002, and MS changes where things are from version to version. I'd look in File, Print Settings. Microsoft's standard solution is for you to buy newer version of Office, since it will be practically impossible to find one of the only 3 people at the company that could answer this ... don't do it.
I can solve for you in another way, you could download openOffice a free open source package that reads/writes MS word documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint and a bunch of other stuff. Additionally I think it's more reliable and has less of the oddball type of thing you have run into. See link below, versions for PC, Mac Linux and more.

This is a quality package, you might like it, and it's free forever. Yeah! It works just like Word, Excel, Powerpoint ... except for the glitches;~)
good luck, and if you like Open Office, I'll tell you about other quality free software ( there's a lot of it these days ). Also if you like it, tell your friends to stop supporting buggy MS Office and to try OO.
good luck

You will have to change this setting in printing software settings , also make sure when you print something that it says current page only or page numbers selection is set to only print the pages you want
need more help?
This behavior occurs if you selected the Document Properties check box on the Print tab from the Options dialog box.
To resolve this behavior, clear the Document Properties check box
on the tools menu , click options then click the print tab
in the included with document area , click to clear the document properties check box , then click ok
.
