The red standby light flashes in the code of 4 times then pauses then 4 times then pauses.

Over voltage protection function is turned ON. Just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 10 minutes or so and check. If it do not help you, the main power regulator board should be checked and replaced. If you wish to get more details about blinking codes to Sony brand TVs, check the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by type in the model name to your set in its search box, or view it in Mosaic /Timeslide option.

The red standby light is flashing twice with a pause, then twice and a pause etc. There's no picture or sound and the light flashed whether we have the tv on or off. Any suggestions?

This blinking is a diagnostic code. Please update this with the model number. These sets contain circuitry that will shut the set down and display a code like this when a problem is detected. With the model number, I can look up the problem and provide potential repair suggestions.

Thanks,
Dan
