File in Outbox cannot delete or send

I have one file in my Outlook Express Outbox. I am assuming that it is corrupted. I have searched for and found Outbox.dbx and deleted it. However the file is still in my Outbox. When I go to my Outbox and click on anything, I get the famous hour glass. Any ideas?

I tried to send too many pictures at once and now cannot get any response from outlook express, cannot delete the email and only get the hourglass.

To delete an email stuck in Outbox, first go to the Send/Receive tab and click Work Offline. This will prevent Outlook from sending email messages that are currently in the Outbox folder. After that switch to Outbox, right-click the message and select Delete.

In Outlook Express, it continues to send older messages each time you send an e-mail. It also does not include them in the Sent file. What can we do? I just ran a new version of Norton 360 2010. ...

delete the old failed messages out of the outbox.. delete ALL messages from the OUTBOX.. if they have failed previously or are too big they might sit there, then every time you go to send a new one or hit send/recieve to get new ones, it will try to send them again.

good luck

I am unable to open Outlook Express 2003

What you need to do is go to 'my computer' then right click on 'C Drive' then click on 'Search'.
Look for a folder named 'identities' - it is hidden so don't forget to mark 'search for hidden files' as well.
It should find the identities folder under application data or something like that.
Anyhow, under identities youl find a string of letters and numbers (another folder), double click and get into it all the way to outlook express... under outlook express you should see all your outlook express folder (like inbox, sent items and outbox).
If the problem is with the outbox just delete it and rerun outlook express, it should recreate that folder.
Good luck.
Hopefully it was informative enough for you to rate my response,

Outlook Express

Empty the Outbox in Outlook Express, move any messages you want to Send later to the Drafts folder.

Close Outlook Express.
Do a Search for .dbx files.
Search:
  • Start > Search > For Files or Folders > All files and folders,
In the field for: all or part of the file name
    Key in:
    .dbx
Below that, click on More advanced options
in the field: Type of File, select (All Files and Folders)
    place a checkmark in:
  • Search system folders
  • Search hidden files and folders
  • Search subfolders
    click Search

Locate the Outbox.dbx file and Sent Items.dbx file and delete it.
Restart Outlook Express, a new Outbox.dbx file will be created.
Send yourself a Test message to see if it leaves the Outbox.

You may need to enable Show Hidden Files and Folders to see the .dbx files.
Windows XP:
  • Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
Apply, OK to save and close.

Outlook express outbox is stuck in 'sending' mode

More than likely, you'll need to delete the outbox.dbx file located in the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\***you user name***\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{***LONG SET OF NUMBERS}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

You will find the outbox.dbx in that directory.. Delete it, and you're good to go!
