No... assuming you are using an ethernet connection. The USB light is only for when you are connecting via a USB cable.

Ok right I love these issues. Here we go!! First I want you to determine if this is a no sync issue or if this is a no route issue. Know this is the difference between working with Verizon or working with Verizon On-Line. If you have a sync issue which means the DSL light is off or blinking, this would be a Verizon proper issue and is easy to have fixed, however if the DSL light is on and the internet light is off this means that you have not received a PPPoE derived address and thus while you have DSL (Digital Subcriber Line) sync you do not have connectivity to a gateway router to route you to the Internet. I want you to log into you DSL modem (http://192.168.1.1) then using your login ID and Password the one you configured for the Router not Internet access. And the go to the screen that show your DSL connectivity see if it is up or down *Remember DSL refers to the layer 1 connectivity, and PPPOE refers to the layer 2 connectivity". If the DSL light is on this meaans that you have to call verizon and say "My DSL light is on, but I am not getting an IP address which means my layer 1 connectivity is working, but my layer 2 PPPOE connectivity did not provide the platform for my layer 3 level to be built". so this now becomes a task of troubleshooting the layer 2 systems (PPPOE server, and IP Address delivery systems, and Redback SMS). Instead of a half hour of "is your modem plugged in". If your DSL light is off then your layer 1 systems are not working this could be anything from your modem to the ASAM ( ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer ) system or DSLAM (Digital subscriber Line Access Multiplexer). In any case if the DSL light is off they just have to figure out why. This can be done at the central office by disconnceting your cable and pair and trying to sync up at the vertical shelf (Ca/Pr) or at the split bank. If they sync up the problem is outside, if they do not sync up the problem is inside the CO either at the Split bank or the DSL OE block. If the problem is in the CO they will fine and fix it. If the problem is outside, what you can do to expedite things is to take your DSL modem to the NID (Network Interface device) and connect to the phone line that has DSL on it and try to sync up there. If you can sync up the problem is inside of your house, if you can not sync up the problem is outside of your house prior to the NID and thus is verizon's responsibility. I hope this helps.

I found a solution for this problem. After complaining to Verizon Tech support, I finally got someone to listen. I talked to a Tech that I think was in India, nice lady that walked me through all the line test and finally a modem test. My connection keep dropping through the modem test, which I had a feeling the real problem was. I was told the modem was out of warranty and would cost $59.00 to replace at first, but after calling in so many times this lady sent me a new modem, not a 327W, a 7500. Disconnected the old modem, installed the new one and so far no more dropped connection problem.

SOURCE: Intermittently lose internet connection with my Westell 7500

hi,

I used to work for verizon for two years as level 3 support, here is the thing,if verizon already replaced the modem, that means that its not really the modem, its the connection, thats what we call intermittent route, here is what you are going to do,contact verizon, have them run an intermittent connection line test, tell them that internet connection is not consistent, they will create an active ticket for you,it will be forwarded to the central office and the central office will run a different test, thats what we call a test assist...they will be able to verify if the problem is the line form the central office going to your house...

thanks and God Bless

SOURCE: I have a westell 7500

I believe you type 192.168.1.1 into your browser's address bar, hit enter and you're there. Some say you have to use Internet Explorer (version 5.5 or later), not sure though.

How many lights should be on my westell model327w?

b2f0922.jpg
The Westell has several lights on the front that have various meanings

Power = When lit, this light indicates there's power to the router. It should be solid green.

Ethernet = When lit, this light indicates that the modem is communicating with your computer. This will be on only if you're using the Ethernet cable to connect the modem to your computer

Wireless = When lit, this light indicates that the wireless function of the Actiontec is working. This will only be lit if you're using the wireless function.

DSL = When lit, this light indicates the modem is speaking to the central office (phone company). When working, the light should be solid green.

Internet = When blinking, this light indicates that you're receiving information i.e., you're able to browse from site to site. This light will be blinking as you're receiving information.

We currently have our wireless internet through Century Link. We are renting a Westell 7500 router from Century Link. We want to purchase our own router ( preferably the same exact router we are renting)....

The Westell 7500 is not just a router. It's a gateway (for DSL), a 4 port LAN (wired network), wireless router and can be made into a bridge, for use with a router of your choice.
It's my understanding there are modem/routers out now and you would simply set them up with the settings found in the Westell.

I need help connecting a westell 7500 router/modem,i want to get a notebook on line. i didnt receive any intsructions.i need help connecting the westell 7500 to my pc and notebook thanking you.

Westell makes a line of broadband home networking products that enable residential customers and users in small businesses to access and share broadband services. These inexpensive DSL router/modems offer multi-users Internet LAN access for home or business applications. The Westell router/modems allow you to have the benefits of the "always on" high-speed broadband Internet connection without losing the ability to receive voice calls over the same phone line.
  1. Step 1 288254_thumb.jpg Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer's Ethernet port. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Westell router.
  2. Step 2 Connect the barrel end of the router's power cord to the connector labeled "12 v" on the back of the router. Plug the other end of the power cord into a wall outlet.
  3. Step 3 Connect one end of the DSL phone cable to the DSL line jack on the back of the router. Connect the other end to the wall jack.
  4. Step 4 Wait for the Ready and the Link LEDs to glow steady green. The router is now ready to use.

Did you put the password in the modem ?? 192.168.1.1 is your first step. Check to see if the modem AND your computer are on the same page - or is your computer giving the modem a temporary password. How new is the modem ?? Programing ease depends on modem age and modem intelligence.
