If you want to delete everything on the card, the easiest way is to format the card. This will wipe out all images (and any other data as well) on the card, whether protected or not. The Format command is in the Setup menu. Details on page 32 of the manual.
To delete individual protected pictures, unprotect them first. From the Playback menu select Protect/Unprotect (the key icon). Details on page 84.

Erasing a protected imaage on cannon t3 rebel camera

Use the menu to unprotect the image then you can delete. Also you can format the card but that will remove all the images on the card so make sure you've saved it elsewhere.

I have a picture that has a green key in the upper right hand corner. I cannot delete that picture.

It's protected. Unprotection is the same as protection. While in play mode, go into the menu and look for the "protect" item. Use it on that image to remove the protection and you will be able to delete it.

Comment back if you have trouble finding the menu item.

I can't delete protected pictures

That's the point of protecting pictures. You can remove the protection by reversing the procedure. Full details are in the "Protecting images and Sound Files from Deletion (Protect)" section of the manual (page 120 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

How do i delete pics from memory card on my dsc w55

to delete an image follow these steps:
1.press playback button to show your pictures.
2.select an image using the right and left control key.
3.once an image has been selected, press the image size/delete button (its the button located just below the control buttons, and it looks like an icon of two boxes, a slash and a garbage can).
4.press the up button to highlight delete.
5.then press the middle of the control button to confirm.
now, if by any chance you would like to delete all files (incl.protected images) in the memory stick with just one go, do the format procedure:
press menu>go to setup (looks like a toolbox icon) and press right control button again>go to memory stick tool>go down to format>press right control button>press up to select ok>confirm by pressing middle button>select ok>press again the middle control button to complete format.
hope this helps.thanks:)

I accidentally protected a picture on my camera nikon d60, how to unprotect it and delete it

There are 2 ways to do it. Firstly you can format the card - this will delete all images, including protected ones. Second method is to display the image in full frame view mode (or highlight it in thumbnail view) and then press the AE-L /AF-L button. This will remove the protection - or protect an unprotected image.
Hope that helps

I downloaded some pictures to my school computer and now my camera won't take any pictures. Message is Memory card write protected.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

How can i delete a 'protected'picture?

If only one picture is protected, you could download the others and then format the card in the camera. Also, in almost every camera that has the ability to "protect" an image, it also has the ability to remove that protection. Just go into the playback menu and find something to do with "protect" and follow the directions to cancel the protection.

Deleting Photos From The Memory Stick

Deleting Still images From The Memory Stick This procedure is nearly identical with all of our digital camcorders. The only difference you may find is that there may not be an enter button on your model. If this is the case, the menu dial serves as your enter button when you push it in. * If you want to delete protected images, you must first deactivate the image protection. * An image which has been deleted cannot be recovered. 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER. 3. Using the (FWD) and (REV) buttons, search for the still image that you want to delete. 4. Press the MENU button. 5. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button. The MEMORY SET submenu will appear. 6. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight DELETE and press the ENTER button. Using the MENU DIAL, select either THIS FILE or ALL FILES and press the ENTER button. *THIS FILE : deletes only the file currently selected. *ALL FILES : deletes all files stored in the Memory Card. 7. A box will appear to verify whether you wish to delete the image(s). Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. *EXECUTE : deletes the selected image(s). *CANCEL : does not delete the selected image(s) and returns to the previous menu.
