yes, I have the same problem. But my camera also will not rewind the film when it is used up. Any help? In the past I have rewound the cartridge by hand after removing it under a dark drape. Today I noticed a rewind button on the bottom of the camera, that may solve my second problem, but the H flashes and camera will not turn on. display also show good battery and film inside.yes, I have the same problem. turn camera on keep the lens cap on and push the button on the side of the camera with the image of a lightening bolt at the same time help the flash door up if that doesnt work go to menu then custom setting then go to braketing/ flash toggle right and turn on builtin flash
More info needed: Will the flash fire when you push the test button? Have you rest the camera you're using to factory defaults while the flash is mounted on the camera and turned on?

Turn on your Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera
Press the Flash Right Arrow button on the four-way control on the back
of your camera to display flash options on the camera's LCD screen
Now push the Left Arrow or Right Arrow button to select the flash "OFF" icon. It's the third icon that display the flash symbol crossed out by a backslash symbol inside the circle.

See the buttons at the backside of your camera. You'll see a button with arrow (lightening with arrow) mark at the right side of "OK" button. That's flash button !! Push the button and you can turn on (or turn off) your flash light.

Set the Camera to in normal shooting mode. The flash will not operate if the Camera is set to Macro mode.The setting is found on the left hand side of the camera, push the Micro/Normal switch to the down and try.
When you turn the camera on and you are on the main screen, use the last touch screen button at the bottom marked with a lighting bold. If you hit it it once, the flash is automatic, if you hit it twice it is always on.

I believe you're pushing the wrong button. The way to turn the flash on/off is to push the top part of the ring that surrounds the "FUNC SET" button. This is the same ring that you push left/right to scroll backward/forward through the pictures you've already taken. Similarly, you push the bottom of that ring to turn the "macro" function on/off. I have the same problem. The rewind button on the bottom still works, but I can't take pictures. HELP!
