Do you have a Swirling circle in the Upper right hand corner that just stays there when a disk is put in? If so.....you can try the cleaner. If not your Blu-ray drive has failed. and you should contact Sony.
If it did read the discs and now it doesn''t you might as well check if the laser lens is dirty.
A laser lens cleaner might do the trick. Here is one i found on google. You should find one in the shops if you look around or you can order one from somewhere. At least you know what to look for.

Most likely the laser needs to be replaced if you can not hear the disc spinning. Thanks!!
The laser failure is THE only problem if the machine works properly other then reading a disc. The lasers that Sony used are JUNK! Some people will tell you "it's dirty", or "it's bad software". This is not true. I have refurbished 162 PS3 units as of yesterday and know these things like a dentist knows teeth!! I still don't understand the need to under rate a solution just because you can't accept the truth. Thanks anyways.

What kind of disk? What exactly do you mean by won't play? Do you mean you get a region warning? If so, you are trying to play a movie so is it on DVD or Blue-Ray also what region is the PS3 and what region is the DVD/Blue-Ray disk? Is it a game your having trouble with and if so do you get a message on screen or any lights on the front of the PS3?
There is absolutely no way to determine what the problem is, never mind what the solution is form "disc's wont plat in my ps3.", you need to be specific and verbose if we are to stand any chance of helping you.
The lens cleaner the guest has given you a link to is a very good starting point as it's designed to work with both slot and try loading optical drives BUT:
***Warning***
Do not use a lens cleaner with 2 small brushes on it (the most common type of cleaning disk), the PS3 has a slot loading drive so brush based disks will have they're bristles striped off, usually causing even more problems.
******
We really do need more information from you to make a diagnosis of the problem, a dead laser is just one of many, many known issues with the PS3 and without more information from you any diagnosis of the actual problem is just a wild stab in the dark.
Woops! That should read "tray loading" not "try loading" sorry.
