Maxtor One-Touch 4 750gb power light flashes and goes out straight away.

I have a Maxtor One-Touch 750gb external H/d and when the power adapter is inserted the power light comes on and goes out straight away an the H/d doesn't spin up or isn't recognized by the laptop.

I have tried the power adapter with another H/d and it works fine.

I was wondering if there was anything I could myself or if anyone has had the same problem as I lost the recipet.

I have a new Maxtor One-Touch 750gb external drive. When I open "My Computer", it shows a RED line.. but I have 47 gigs of space free. Should I save my files and Reformat this external drive?

Try to remove the drive and connect it directly to another computer.
If still doesn't spin up then most likely the board has failed.

Just use a standard USB cable to run from the drive to the computer's USB port, and connect the power adapter from the wall to the drive.

Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working.There is a chance that you can recover data using a USB to IDE or SATA Adapter Cable to recover your data they cost about $30 if you cant get hard drive to power with adapter chances are it has crashed there are places that can get data off hard drive but they are very pricey hope this helps.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.
Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light
Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.
