Four times lately we left and observed the garage door closed. returned several hours later to find the garage door open !!!!!!!! HELP
CAN WE CHANGE THE CODE IN THE EVENT SOMEONE ELSE ON OUR STREET HAS THE SAME CODE ?
Well you should first try to erase all codes in your opener so that way no remotes will work for it. next close your garage door (so if some has a remote that is not authorized to have one will not see what you are doing. next get a ladder and get to the back of the opener motor head. their should be a red square button, press and hold it, note that when your holding the button an orange light will illuminate next to the red square button. continue to hold that button until the light turns off. test your remote to make sure that it does NOT operate your garage door. next press and release the red square button aka the LEARN button and the orange led should illuminate once more press the desired button on your remote control and the opener lights should blink. or click if no lights are installed, one time. repeat for additional remotes!
I had the same problem. Turns out that everytime the neighbor used his opener, my door was affected. When I used my opener, it did not affect his door.
You can buy an external radio for your opener. Genie has a unit for sale at home depot. Basically, you cut the antenna wire off of your opener to diable the receiver. The new radio triggers by connecting to same contacts used for the garage door button on your wall. Presto.
HOWEVER, by the time you buy the new radio and some remotes, you almost paid as much as a new opener that comes with several remotes. However, if you are not inclinded to install a new opener, then I suggest the external radio.
I was experiencing problems with my
garage door opener 6 years ago.
At random times, my garage door
would just open by itself.
I found out that the radio receiver
in the door opener (Craftsman), was very
sensitive.
So I coiled the wire that hangs down
(antenna), with a pencil.
This will leave a cute little "pigtail" coil when you remove the pencil.
Now, the effective range is to the
end of my driveway, and no further.
People need to be aware that when
they get a new opener, whether it's a built in on new vehicle, or new remote, when
you program it into the opener, ANY other opener in use and in range will be
programmed into the door opener.
So, mornings and early evenings are a
bad time to program a new remote for the door
opener.
Mornings and evenings correspond to
times when people are leaving for work, or arriving home from
work.
Be aware of people near your house sitting in their car and watching you leave. Aparently, there are receivers that can record RF emissions from a door opener. How they reproduce the rolling code, I have no clue. When in doubt over "visitors" in your neighborhood, WRITE DOWN the license plate number if you can.

Do any of you having this problem have FIOS service installed in your home? If so you need to call Verizon so they can move the ONT away from the garage unit. Most of the time this happens if the ONT is on the inside of the garage. The ONT put out a frquency that will open up garage doors specially sears chamberlain....Hope this helps...ohh also make sure the power cord for the ont needs to be on a separate outlet from the plug for the opener...this can also cause doors to open...

Do you have the 976LM Model that you have this posted under? This is what it says on the chamberlain website.. I would change the code and this should fix your problem, the instructions are below. Please let me know how it goes and if you need further assistance. Thank you! :)
(The rolling code between these channels and the receiver changes with each use, randomly accessing over 100 billion new codes.
As an added feature, the 4th button is capable of learning or being trained to duplicate or match another Chamberlain manufactured fixed code or billion-code remote. This feature is normally used when several remotes are required to operate on fixed code devise such as a gate opener or commercial dock door. In this case, the code transmitted to the receiver remains constant or fixed, not using the Security+ format.)
So if you have the Security plus feature enabled then it is constantly switching between codes, if you are using multiple remotes in your cars then it is probably set to use the constant or fixed code. I would definately follow the instructions on changing your code. There is a button on the garage opener itself that you will need to push and sync up with the remotes that you have.
Here are the instructions to program and change your codes:
Single-Button Remote Control:
Slide the battery compartment cover back to access the code switches in the remote control.
Two-Button Remote Control:
The two-button remote control has two push buttons (For button 1 and button 2), each activated by its own set of code switches. One of the buttons can be used to operate a garage door opener. The other button can operate an entry way, light product or another door opener.
Access the code switches for button 1 (smooth button) by sliding back the battery compartment cover. To access the code switches for button 2 (ribbed button), remove the battery compartment cover and the cover screw. Then depress the tab in the edge of the case (alongside the battery). The remote control case back will lift off.
Three-Button Remote Control:
The three-button remote control has three buttons. The large button is recommended for use with a garage door opener. The other push buttons can be used to operate another garage door opener and/or light control product. Slide back the battery compartment cover to access the code switches in the three-button remote control.
To match or change the code in the remote control
Locate the code switches in both the new and the original remote controls, either by removing the case screw and cover or by sliding the battery compartment cover back. Place remote controls side by side and set switches in all remote controls to matching positions (+,0,-). Use a pen or screwdriver to slide the code switches.
NOTE: Code switch #1 on the three-button remote control is dormant, when used with a single-button remote control. Set code switch #1, in the single-button remote control, to match the push button selected on the three-button remote control.
Programming the opener
If your unit has a "Learn" button:
1. Press and release the "learn" button located on the back panel of the motor unit. The learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds.
2. Within the 30 second window, press and hold the button on the hand-held remote.
3. The unit will either activated or the opener light bulb will blink signifying it has learned the code
If your unit has code switches:
1. Using a step ladder climb up to the back of your motor unit. Check the code switch settings on the back of the motor unit.
2. Use a pen/screw driver to set code switches on the back of the remote control to match the code switches on the back of the motor unit.
3. Once the code switches have been set, push the remote control button to activate your unit.
Oh and to answer your second question of whether it might be another electronic signal opening your door? It very well could be although, I am guessing that someone just has the same code as you do and it is opening your door. Changing your code is really not as hard as the instructions make it seem to be, and this will fix the problem whether it is a signal from somwhere around your house, or if someone has your code to the door. we don't have a remote pad . we only use the remote in ourcar.is it correct that the opener rotates codes every time it is operated? is there another electronic signal that could be opening the garage door randomly ?
I have the same problem. My garage door opens when I am not at home. It has done it 6 times now. It started when I changed the code and used a temporary code. I have since changed the code several times but it still opens in the middle of the night or when I am gone. HELP!
