Using rooftop antenna through converter bos to RCA TV

I set up the converter box on my parent's TV several months ago. They have started having reception issues in the last two weeks. I visited their home myself to see what was happening. The main problem relates to watching the local CBS channel. I have it set for the SD version of that channel. During the broadcast a black rectangular block appears in the screen It appears as though the digital signal for that portion of the screen is blocked out. It goes away during commercials, go figure! I can change channel then switch back and the picture is full screen for a few seconds, then the black rectangle comes back. The rectangle accounts for about 20% of the total picture area. The rest of the area is very crisp and clear. Any ideas? They have a motorized fooftop antenna that they aim in specific directions to get best reception. This seems to have no affect on the black rectangle.

CAN I connect 2 tvs.to one converter box and how.

If you're using a box that has an RF (antenna) output on channel 3 or 4 to the TV, you can insert a splitter and feed two sets. A splitter looks like this:

pgh_pa_guy_10.jpg

It takes the signal in on the single connector side, and splits it between the two output jacks on the other side. You can find splitters at TV retailers, Radio Shack, and even at Home Depot or similar stores in the electrical section. Run a cable from each of the output jacks to the antenna connectors on the two TV sets. Each TV will need to be tuned to the converter box output channel, and both sets will get the same program (whatever channel you have selected on the converter).

If the converter box has audio and video output jacks and the nearest set has an AV input, you can connect that set with the same kind of cable you use to hook up a DVD player (RCA plugs on the ends) and select the AV input to see the converter box signal. You would run a cable from the RF output connector of the converter to the second set's antenna jack. Then you wouldn't need the splitter, and the set using the AV inputs would get better quality picture and sound. Again, each set will get the same program as determined by the converter.

Hope this is what you need to get going. Thanks for using Fixya!

Programming RCA converter box remote control with Phil/Mag TV---

Good day,
You should have the instruction guide. If not look below. It's there but look closely for the guide itself and how to increase it's size to readable.

Check on the back of the TV to see if there is a 3 and 4 setting, If so, set to 3.
With nothing connected to the tv, and using the tv's remote, scan for channels. It should come up with only channel 3.
Then using the remote with advanced options, set the the input to either antenna or auto.

Connect the antenna cable to input on the converter box. Using the supplied cable connect the output from the converter box to
the TV. Turn the TV on first, followed by the converter box.
Then follow the instructions.

Not really easy so you'll have to fight your way thru it.
Finding the right setting for the antenna will probably take the most time, requiring a station scan after each adjustment.

Does the JVC AV27230 require a digital to analog converter?

if you are going to continue using the rooftop antenna, then you will nee to purchase a digital converter box. Those television sets are only analog. You do have an option to get Directv or Dish network and you will not need a converter box at all. Directv and Dish network are 100% Digital and the receivers work as converter boxes for that product only.

I have installed a Digitalstream DTX9950 converter box with my TV attached to a rooftop antenna. I can turn the TV off and on with the DTX9950 remote, but I can't bring in any stations, other than the DT...

Are you using the coaxial cable to connect the converter box to the set, or have you hooked it up with rca type video cables? The latter are highly recommended if you want a better connection and have audio/video inputs on the back of your television. But you don't want both A/V & coaxial.
Also be aware that some older antennae will not pick up digital signals well. Try to use a coaxial cable all the way up to the antenna junction. Find out where most signals are broadcast from in your area and aim the antennae appropriately. (Use a compass.) See helpful link here. Your converter remote should have a signal strength button that you can use to check the various channel strengths. If you're using a coaxial link to the tv and have little signal strength, expect a poor picture. You'll also want to select the Mono option for Audio Output in the converter menu.
Finally, depending on the age of your set, if you're using rca video inputs, use the TV/Video button or the AV button on the TV or universal remote to switch the input from the channel on your TV to the video 1 setting (or whatever picks up the digital converter signal) so you'll get that clear signal. Then you can use the converter remote to change channels, adjust volume, etc.

NO channels now, we had some before!!!!!

Here is how you should have it connected.
1- Antenna (rabbit ears or whatever)
2- Converter box
3- Television

When you turn on the TV and the converter box, go to channel 3 on the TV. You should see the converter box signal there. If you do not see it try channel 4. Bring up the convert box menu and go through the AUTO SEARCH, not manual search. Now your box will search all the frequencies and add any stations that are in your area. Make sure you change channels with the converter box, not the tv. An antenna on the roof will still provide somewhat better range, but even rabbit ears will likely pick up something. If you still get no channels you could be too far away, digital signals have a shorter range than analog signals. You can check your local TV stations website or call to see if they are broadcasting digital yet.

How do I connect an analog VCR + converter box to a digital TV?

first of all does your television and/or vcr have a cable connector and/or a set of rca outlets? if they have a cable connection in the back all you have to do is hook the cable from the antenna to the "in from antenna" on your cable box and then connect a cable from "out to tv" to "in from antenna" on the vcr and a cable from "out to tv" on the vcr to "in from antenna" on the tv. then you need to make sure on the converter box and the vcr and look for a channel selector and see what channel they are on. most vcr's have a selector for either channel 3 or 4, look at what channel it is set to and if your converter box has the same thing then match it with the vcr. then tune your tv to that channel and you should be able to work your vcr as long as the vcr/tv button shows that you are on the vcr. now if your tv and/or vcr have rca outlets and your converter box has the same then just hook the cable from the antenna to the cable box and substitute the rca cable for the regular cable and tune your tv to video or line input.
