I have no remote and need to know how to access the menu to set the clock etc. Holding in the volume knob doesn't work like some other Sony units. Any help is appreciated.
RODNEY,
GO UP ON THE SONY WEBSITE AND ACCESS YOUR MODEL NUMBER. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND COPIES OF THE MANUALS ONLINE AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD, PRINT, THE PARTS YOU NEED. YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND A REPLACEMENT REMOTE ON THE SITE ALSO. HOPE THIS SOLVES YOU PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED ,MORE HELP, JUST REPLY TO

YES, I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, BECAUSE I HAVE SIRRIUS SAT. RADIO IN THE HOUSE AND CAR AND IT DOES THE SAME. I HAVE TO HOLD A BUTTON FOR X SECONDS TO OPEN THE MENU. I FIND IT ODD THAT THE MANUAL DIDN'T LIST AN OPTIONAL WAY TO ACCESS THE MENU,ETC. THIS DOES SEEM STRANGE. HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO REACH A TECH SERVICE REP AT THE WEBSITE IF AVAILABLE? THAT WOULD SEEM TO BE THE BEST BET, UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE ON THE SITE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HAVE YOU TRIED TO ACCESS THE MENU WITH THE UNIT IN THE OFF MODE? DON'T KNOW ON THIS ONE, BUT HAD ONE THAT YOU HAD TO DO THIS WITH IT. IT WOULD BE ROTTEN IF THEY FORCE PEOPLE TO BUY THE REMOTE JUST TO PROGRAM THE RADIO, BUT THAT IS POSSIBLE. LET ME KNOW HOW IT COMES ALONG! STILL INTERESTED!

Disconnect the AC power for at least one minute to reset the clock.
Adjust the volume to the minimum using the Volume down button on the front of the unit.
Press and hold the Volume down button on the front of the unit and the 0 button on the remote control at the same time, holding them down for at least 10 seconds.
The user menu will appear with the V-Chip cursor blinking.
Press the ENTER key on the remote control and the NEW PASSWORD menu will appear.
Enter your new password.
The V-Chip is bypassed by holding the zero key on the original remote hand unit, and at the sane time holding down the volume down on the front of the TV set. This should reset the oide so you can enter a new one.
OK.

Hello ARCLIGHT1217 - yes I have the manual and have seen the remotes (listed for $39.95) but I find it odd that you cannot get to the stereo menu without using a remote. I really can't believe they would design software this way to insure remote sales to potential future customers. The newer CDX-GT series decks have access manually by pressing and holding in the volume button (which doesn't work on my unit) and I was hoping there was a sequence of button pushes etc to get to the menu without being held hostage over buying a remote control.
Hello ARCLIGHT1217
I thought I would give you an update on my Sony experience so far. I had the pleasure of talking with service personal in California today (not bad for Sony Canada requests) and he was doing a lot of reading manuals and service bullitins. It seems that the only way to get to the menu is through a remote control. Some early Explod model were this way and I guess the customers voiced their opinions negatively about this being held hostage over a remote control. I was always under the impression a remote was a handy marketing tool to entice potential customers into buying your product. I guess I was wrong as certain models need this neccessity to access the menu to set the sound filters, amp, clock, turn the first startup introduction off, etc etc etc. This unit needs a remote and I'm stuck buying one. I once had a job searching for software bugs in a computer program written for a device used to test train braking systems. I'll be playing with buttoms for a while trying to find a flaw in the programming...lol.
